Tokyopop and 20th Century Serve up Trio of CineManga

TOKYOPOP INC. AND TWENTIETH CENTURY FOX SERVE-UP A TANTALIZING TRIO OF CINE-MANGA TREATS
Comedy-Packed Titles Include "Family Guy," "Malcolm in the Middle" and "The Simple Life"

BookExpo America - Chicago, IL (June 3, 2004)-TokyoPop Inc. and Twentieth Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising have teamed up to bring a number of hit FOX television shows to life with the release of an entertaining series of must-read Cine-Manga(tm) books. The first new Cine-Manga title, "Malcolm in the Middle," is scheduled to debut in stores this August, with adaptations of "Family Guy" and "The Simple Life" set to hit bookshelves in October.

TOKYOPOP's Cine-Manga is a truly unique visual book format. Using full-color digital images freeze-framed into action-packed spreads and peppered with manga-style text balloons and sound effects, the onscreen comedy, drama and action is cleverly captured in a lively, innovative layout. With mass retailers including Wal-Mart, Target and Best Buy carrying the popular fare, TOKYOPOP's Cine-Manga line of books has proven so popular that more than a million units were sold in 2003 alone. TOKYOPOP's Cine-Manga titles are also frequent members of Nielsen BookScan's Children's Overall Paperback Bestseller lists.

"FOX's fantastic ensemble of smash-hit, award-winning TV shows is a breath of fresh air for TOKYOPOP's booming Cine-Manga format," said TOKYOPOP's Senior Editor of Cine-Manga, Elizabeth Hurchalla. "Great comedy series come few and far between in these current times of television, and we look forward to developing these properties into laugh-out-loud books."

Leading off the pleasing pack is the Cine-Manga version of "Malcolm in the Middle," a true-to-life comedy to which all kids-and adults-can relate. The Emmy Award®-winning series has been hailed by the Philadelphia Inquirer as "The best hour of family comedy on television."

"Family Guy" follows with a Cine-Manga in October. The renowned Emmy Award-winning show ("Gloriously twisted" and "A laugh riot!"-TV Guide) was 2003's top-selling TV to DVD title and the fourth-best selling TV to DVD title ever. FOX will resume production on "Family Guy" with at least two dozen new episodes, marking the first time a canceled series has been revived on the strength of its DVD sales.

Also releasing in October is the Cine-Manga based on "The Simple Life." From the penthouse to the outhouse, hotel heiress Paris Hilton and her best friend Nicole Richie leave the comforts of their lavish lifestyle for Altus, AR (population 816). This novel Cine-Manga is sure to capture the behind-the-scenes antics and mayhem of the breakout FOX hit.

"We are thrilled to have a fresh new publishing format such as Cine-Manga to give our properties the distinct look and feel they deserve," said Debbie Olshan, Twentieth Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising. "Our fans are sure to be rolling on the floor laughing with TOKYOPOP's ground-breaking line of books."
