Toei's upcoming Blu-ray Disc release of Toward the Terra, the 1980 film adaptation of Keiko Takemiya's To Terra manga, will include 90 seconds of previously unseen footage. The footage, which is included as an extra, will revolve around Jonah Matsuka's death [highlight white text to read spoilers]. The scene will not be voiced and most of the cuts will not be colored. Takemiya herself had recently discovered this unreleased scene, which had been given to her as a gift.
Other video extras include a new special talk session (between Takemiya, director Hideo Onchi, and planner Takeshi Tamiya), teasers, and trailers. The release will also include an eight-page booklet. Toei only lists subtitles in Japanese. The Blu-ray Disc will ship on September 13 for 5,250 yen (about US$53).
Takemiya's original science-fiction manga takes place after humanity has abandoned the devastated Earth for space, and after the emergence of Mu, a psionic offshoot of mankind that is persecuted by normal humans. The Mu seek refuge by heading toward the Terra home world of the past.
Right Stuf released the film on DVD in North America in 2008. The manga also inspired a 24-episode television anime series in 2007 that Bandai Entertainment released in North America.
Vertical released the original three-volume manga in North America in 2007.
