Weekend Wrapup: 3/Feb - 9/Feb

This week we have more on the return of Dragon Ball Z and Ghost in the Shell and another Sherlock project makes it's way west;

A 30 second trailer for Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods has aired on Japanese TV. The film will take place between the 517th and 518th chapters of Akira Toriyama's original manga which is set in the "lost decade" after the final battle with Majin Buu. The film's plot revolves around Birusu, the god of destruction, looking for a powerful opponent and upon hearing of Goku's reputation, challenges and overwhelmingly defeats Goku.

Akira Toriyama has been deeply involved in the film's story and designs from the early screenwriting stages. Masahiro Hosoda (Dragon Ball Z episode director, Nangoku Shounen Papuwa-kun) is directing at Toei off a script by Yūsuke Watanabe (live-action 20th Century Boys trilogy, Gantz, Bloody Monday, Future Diary). The film will open on the 30th of March 2013 in Japan.

Additionally Toriko, One Piece and Dragon Ball Z will have an hour long crossover television special. "Dream 9 Toriko & One Piece & Dragon Ball Z Chō Collaboration Special!!" will air on the 7th of April 2013 on Fuji TV.

The Ghost in the Shell Arise project launch will be streamed with English audio. The 60 minute event will include announcements, the opening animation and a promotional video and will be streamed live worldwide on February 12th at 9:00 p.m. in Japan (click here for your local TZ) on Niconico, Bandai Channel, and YouTube.

Fate/Zero will recieve a English dub and stream through Viz Media's Neon Alley service on the PlayStation 3 in spring 2013. While not of immidiate importantance to Australian fans, a full English dub cast list including Kari Wahlgren as Saber and English trailer have been made available.

Hiroyuki Imaishi, the director of Dead Leaves, Gurren Lagann and Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt has started a new animation project at Studio Trigger. The news was announced through the March issue of Kadokawa Shoten's Newtype magazine and further information will be in the June issue on the 10th of May. The project is planned as a television series and was started three years ago about when Imaishi was working on Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt.

And finally Kodansha Comics will be publishing a English translation of Yuma Ando (Drops of God, Kindaichi Case Files) and Yuki Satō's Sherlock Bones (Tanteiken Sherdock) in September 2013. The manga follows a reincarnation of Sherlock Holmes as a talking dog named Sherdock who goes and solves crimes with high school student Takeru Wajima. The manga debuted in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine in 2011 and the seventh volume will ship on February 15th.
