Doujin Work's Hiroyuki to Start Mangaka-san Manga
posted on by Egan Loo
Hiroyuki, the fan-turned-pro artist best known for his Doujin Work manga, will launch a new four-panel manga called Mangaka-san to Assistant-san to (The Manga Creator and the Assistant and…) in February. The title will debut in this year's fourth issue (on sale on February 1) of Square Enix's Young Gangan magazine. Like Doujin Work, the new work will tell the slice-of-life stories of a manga artist. Unlike the previous work's fanzine-producing heroine, the new work's heroine (Yuki Ato) will be a professional artist. The story's main focus will be on his professional/personal relationship with his assistant. The manga will also run in the March issue (on sale on February 12) of Square Enix's Monthly Shonen Gangan magazine and in Monthly Gangan Wing magazine.
Hiroyuki announced in a January 10 blog entry that he was ending Doujin Work in February. Coincidentally, he also announced on January 4 that he was hiring new "male or female" assistants. He explained that he needed the additional help because of a (then unnamed) manga in Monthly Shonen Gangan and Young Gangan.
