Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Mimic Plush

Retail Price: ¥22,000/US$142.23

AmiAmi: ¥22,000

Crunchyroll Store: $199.99

Publisher: MOVIC

Ah yes, just you, your loved one, and your giant 22,000 JPY plushie of a mimic eating Frieren. I have to make room for some big-ticket items on this list, so why the hell not a soft and huggable immortalization of that great running gag from fantasy hit Frieren: Beyond Journey's End? It's a positively huge plushie piece, so if you've ever dreamed of falling asleep while cuddling a carnivorous treasure chest, your time has come. Naturally, the main attraction is the lil' Frieren herself, who never learns and can be crammed into the waiting maw of the oldest trick in the monster manual. It's truly a-vore-able!

Godzilla Egg Godzilla

Retail Price: 1,430 yen/US$9.25

AmiAmi: 1,210 yen/US$7.82

Amazon: US$17.47

Big Bad Toy Store: US$14.99

Publisher: Bandai

Godzilla's been having a pretty great couple of years, which naturally translates to good times for toys. Not that the Big G was ever hard up for merchandise, but being an Oscar winner now means it's a cinch to find decent figures of the lovable lizard lining the aisles of your local Target. But if you just want to stuff the stockings of your favorite fans of harrowing nuclear allegory, you can go a bit more esoteric—or should I say, egg-soteric? Please don't kill me; these transforming egg figures represent a longstanding Japanese toy tradition of tokusatsu icons converting into eggs. Plus, you know you'll enjoy that moment of puzzlement from the giftee when they pull what looks for all the world like an actual lump of coal out of their stocking, only to unfurl it into Godzilla's unmistakable skreeonk-adonk.

Revoltech Amazing Yamaguchi My Hero Academia Figures

Retail Price: 11,000 yen/US$70.84

Big Bad Toy Store:US$94.99

Ami Ami: 8,800 yen/US$56.69

Publisher: Kaiyodo

The wells of anime action figures go far deeper than the expected entries of figma and S.H. Figuarts. And one name from far back in the before-times has resurfaced in recent years: Revoltech. Those classic clicky joints have been reborn in the "Amazing Yamaguchi" line. They mainly make a name for themselves at first with super-stylized superheroes from Marvel and DC's pages, which naturally lead them to treatments of the anime world's most famous supes as well. Kōhei Horikoshi's intensely dynamic art lends itself wonderfully to the exaggerated posing potential of My Hero Academia in ratcheting Revoltech form, with favorites including Dabi, Shigaraki, and even Endeavor (for a given value of "favorite") available now. Plus, a fresh release of Izuku "Deku" Midoriya himself is still up for pre-order and on track to be out by the end of November.

Transformers: Starscream Limited Edition Bishoujo Statue

Retail Price: US$179.99

Amazon: US$204.54

Publisher: Kotobukiya

Alright, I'm getting at least one in just for me. Kotobukiya's Bishoujo line has been having fun reimagining various pop-culture properties as hot anime statues for years now, and their takes on Transformers have turned out particularly cool. One of the more recent releases is everyone's favorite smirking snake of a second-in-command, Starscream, and she's probably one of my favorite designs yet. Her "wings" are done as a gym bag she's got slung over her shoulder, that's brilliant! Pop her on your shelf to be menaced by the similarly Bishoujo-fied Megatron. Does that relationship count as toxic yuri? I have no idea.

Naruto Shippūden Blokees

Retail Price: US$81.99 (for full set)

Big Bad Toy Store: US$81.99

Publisher: Blokees

If you were in toy collecting spheres for the past year or so, you probably caught wind of Blokees. These little buildable bobs have been tearing up talks among the Transformers fandom, with a bit of a side hustle happening with Ultraman. And they've got Naruto fans covered now, too, with this suite of kits based on Shippuden characters. Naruto, Sakura, Sasuke, and a whole bunch of the Akatsuki and others are here in posable, pop-together form. Individual figures are a great choice for stocking stuffers, or you can surprise someone with a complete box of the highly visible ninja.

Laid-Back Camp - Shima Rin - 1/7 - Look What I Bought Ver.

Retail Price: 24,178 yen/US$156.34

Ami Ami: 22,480 yen/US$145.36

Solaris Japan: US$161.51

Publisher: KlockWorx"

Big anime figures are always a flex of a purchase, but what about one that very specifically speaks for itself? Okay, the usually extremely non-declarative ShimaRin from Laid-Back Camp isn't actually speaking up about herself here—rather, this statue immortalizes the delightful (and relatable) moment where she pops out and puts together her new compact camping barbecue grill. She's showing it off only to herself in that scene, but as a fancy figure apart from more typical anime-girl displays, this makes a strong show-off to get for any dedicated Laid-Back Camp fans in your life.

Glass Swaying Smile Slime

Retail Price: 1,100 yen/US$7.11

Ami Ami: 820 yen/US$5.30

Amazon: US$17.90

Publisher: Square Enix

Novelty glassware is a solidly reliable gift-giving option for otaku. They're fun, they're useful, and the more you use them for drinks, the more likely you are to drop them, shatter them, and need new ones. Square Enix offers some strong standby options in these "YuraYura" or "Swaying" glasses adorned with the faces of the lovable Slimes from Dragon Quest. It's a universal appeal for any RPG-loving weeb, and look, I had to get some Toriyama on this list somehow. They're available in both the original recipe and King Slime varieties and just waiting to be filled with any choice of ridiculously blue drink.

Maushold Pokémon Holiday Plush

Retail Price: $27.99

Publisher: Pokémon

There's a whole mess of Pokémon merch out there, and contrary to popular belief, a lot of it does focus on more than the same 12 super-popular representatives. And being able to specialize as it does means the official Pokémon Center has a whole suite of seasonal merchandise featuring adorable ornaments, tasteful advent calendars, plus specialized winter apparel based on nobody's favorite Eeveelution, Glacion. But for my money, and yours, the ideal choice is this holiday plush of Maushold because…well, look at it. It's a cuddly collection of cozy critters cordoned into a charming, warming mouse-muffler. There are a million plushies of Pikachu out there, but here you have the chance to make the holiday of any fans of friggin' Maushold you know. You owe it to them to go for it.

PalVerse 6-Pack Boxes

Retail Price: 6,600 yen/US$42.68

Ami Ami: 5,940 yen/US$38.41

Bushiroad Store:US$12.50 per figure

Amazon:~US$25.00 per figure

Publisher: Bushiroad

A figure series I was just recently turned onto is Bushiroad's PalVerse series (not to be confused with an infamous Pokémon-alike!). They put out an adorable little set of BanG Dream! It's MyGo!!!!! figurines, the nicest I've seen for a series like that at that size and price, and they look to be repeating that pack strategy with several more anime coming up. Some sets like the ones for JoJo's Bizarre Adventure or Bocchi the Rock! won't be out until 2025, but others, including certified hits like Mob Psycho 100 and Oshi no Ko will see these cute little multipacked Munchkins released before the end of this year. That makes them perfect for pre-ordering just in time for the holidays, and either surprising your buddy who loves Chainsaw Man with a whole squad, or splitting everyone's favorite Haikyuu!! characters (and Tsukishima) up among the full friend group.

Retail Price: US$249.99

Crunchyroll Store: US$249.99

Solaris Japan: US$254.19

Publisher: Bebox

What better present could there be than one that unwraps itself? This 1/7 scale Chika Fujiwara comes dressed like a sexy Santa bursting out of her box, and honestly, my favorite part of this figure is the action itself. Although static, there's a real sense of motion here, and the twisting ribbons are delightful. She's not even my favorite character, nor is Christmas my holiday, but I'd enjoy looking at this anyway - just imagine if you know someone who really likes Chika!

Bright, colorful, and with an impressive amount of shapes and baubles, this is the sort of figure you could just stare at for hours. Rotating it means new details to gaze at, and I don't think you have to be a Vocaloid fan to appreciate this 1/7 scale Miku.
