It's times like these that I wish I could draw. :s Maybe I can team up with someone who can, and they'll do the art! Are teams allowed?

Either way, this looks like a great and unique competition!

Awesome. Guess I'd better get started. I've already gotten an idea for a Shonen-esque comic/manga, too.

Cool! I could try to enter it, even if I'm not used to drawing manga...

I feel like it's some kind of sign! I have to at least try to come up with something!

EDIT: "All rights including the publication rights, the screening stage rights, adaptation to animation or live action video of the submitted works shall belong to Shueisha."

Probably something to keep in mind if you plan on entering. Basically they get all the rights to your one-shot and may take it in a totally different direction down the line

If this had happened in the past, I would have entered for the wrong reasons.

Now, I'm entering because I want to tell an incredible story. I'll do my best to use everything I learned up to this point.

Hmm I'm pretty conflicted. On one hand, I have a couple of ideas I've been sitting on for a while that would suit the contest, so I'd like to give it a shot. The problem is, they're all ideas for series, not one shots, and I'd be hesitant to use them here and then never be able to do more with them because Shueisha own the rights forever. Pretty sketchy. I'd also find it doubtful, though possible, that any of the winners would really get a chance at becoming a series.

So I'll sit on it for a bit. Interesting stuff should come out of it regardless. It does make the fact that SJ in America is no longer in print kind of a bummer for the winners, though.

That concerns me. No royalties or credits given to the winners if they take it in those directions? Is this a case of "needing ideas" like that other contest that never seems to have a grand winner?

Oh gosh people would be tiiiiiicked if they offered all that money in 3 different languages but still picked no winner D: It may even hurt Shonen Jump's reputation...

But I'm sure they'd pick some kind of winner. This magazine lets fans submit fan art all the time, I'm sure they'd treat actual one-shot submissions extra carefully, even if they will essentially "own" it..

Well, maybe ya can use a pseudonym for your duo, like Fujiko Fujio of Doreamon fame did, or use a studio name like CLAMP.
