Wow, now I'm really glad I saw it in theaters in Japan. Shame it'll be released so late, but trust me, it's worth the wait! (My third favorite Ghibli film after Kiki and Spirited Away.)

People, they JUST now started to release the cast and said they just started doing recording. Honestly, the 2012 release date shouldn't be that big of a surprise. Yes, it would be nice if it was earlier, say the later part of 2011, but really the year's wait is not that bad considering what news is just coming out now.

It's a shame they're releasing it so late in the upcoming year, but no big.
I've waited A LOT longer then a year for some of my favorite anime films and shows to get here (some I've even had to import).
Patience is a vurtue....when you are an anime fan afterall!
I do hope that they decide to do a LA running for the 84th academy awards...with Pixar releasing Cars 2 next year, Arrietty (along with all the other animated films that may be nominated....such as Pooh, Rio, Tintin, Rango and all the rest) may have a fighting chance....

It's already almost February. 2012 will come quickly.

I might be DEAD then! I want to see it now! Well, y'know how long these releases take. Considering that it was out last year, buy why so long? Ohhhhhh...

Lately, anime fans are risking getting sued for downloading an episode of One Piece because they couldn't wait 15 minutes for Funimation to post it.
Disney will combat this by... releasing the next Ghibli movie two years late! ... >_>

I understand why they have to release the film next year (dubbing, mostly is the cause). I can wait, since I got a lot of other stuff to do.

It'd be 1 year too late to be eligible for the Oscars then.

Yeah! I almost feel like the evil mouse company is doing this on purpose so that Ghibli won't be eligible to compete against their corporate partner: Pixar.
It is almost like it is being purposefully positioned so that it can't compete. What's up with that?!?

As noted in the article, it can still be eligible for the Oscars presented in 2012 if it has a limited engagement (at least one week long in at least one theater) in Los Angeles County this year. The February 2012 date is the date of its nationwide opening, not necessarily the date of any limited release it might have.

I'm wondering if I'll have the Japanese BD release of Arrietty in hand before I have a chance to see it in a theatre. I'll have to hope that it shows up in a film festival (or something of that sort) in the Bay Area later this year...
