Given that FUNimation in 2010 is worth maybe a fifth of what it was in 2005 when Navarre bought it, I don't see how they're going to make their investment back.
Navarre just kept pumping money into them, and I think they realized they aren't getting a return on that investment. I think that even thought there are 6 interested parties, they aren't going to be willing to pay the asking price that Navarre has set; I expect lots of negotiations wrangling. |

All the news reports I've ever read about it seemed to say the opposite, that it was Funi what put money into Navarre, so if anyone will be hurting it will be them.
 I'd love to see the list of who those six were.

These two statements seem to be confusing capital value and cash flows. If the capital value of Funimation has gone down, its not because Funimation is a drain on cash flow, but rather because expectations of the anime market as a whole in 2005 were over-optimistic. And its the current capital value to Navarre that matters for the sale, not the original purchase price. For where Navarre is going and where Funimation is going, its become a conglomerate division to Navarre, and Navarre has no real interest in being a conglomerate corporation. If there's a buyer with better synergy, Funimation will be worth more to that buyer than it is as a profit center to Navarre, so they'll be able to strike a deal. |

That would be horrible. I don't think any of the remaining anime studios has the money to buy Funimation, let alone would they know how to handle the aquisition, as they can't seem to get their own releases straight (especially Bandai, who seems to leave one language or the other off most of their current releases, depending on the format). Heck, if Disney bought it just as an extra revenue source and kept their hands off the actual running of the business, I'd prefer that over any of the "established" anime companies. |

None of the other anime distributors will buy it, on the principle of "never eat anything bigger than your own head". Could be a mid-tier entertainment production company. |

So they said it's met their expectations, right? So why are they trying to sell it off? They must have not expected too much out of it.
Also this reminds me of the time my father sold his nice sports car to the wrong person and it was a junk pile when we saw it a few months later. Funimation is seemingly the most stable of the anime companies currently in existence in addition to being my favorite one that licenses all kinds of stuff I'd buy, hopefully it doesn't end up changing and being run into the ground by the next person if a sale goes through.

I'd be ecstatic if Disney was the buyer. Disney has experience with anime. More money would go to FUNimation probably. FUNi would have access to Disney's network. Packaging and authoring would improve, More expensive titles could come over... |

I still don't really understand why exactly Navarre wants to sell FUNImation. What is the big difference between distributing software, and distributing DVDs/Blu-Rays? They usually are sold in the same types of stores. You would think that because of FUNImation, Navarre would get more exposure.

They can do the logistics for the Funimation DVD's on a payment for service basis without owning Funimation. Funimation will be getting more into production and participating in the creation of anime, which is pretty much moving in the opposite direction to what Navarre trying to get into the smartphone app market. |
