Great news. Here's hoping they've got lossless audio for both languages. Now if they'd just put both of the TV series on BD, too...

This is one of those shows that's made for Blu-ray.

Hmm. This is a tough decision. I'd love to buy the whole series on BD. I might consider buying the compilations but I'd hate to spend the money on them if the whole series gets a BD release at some point in the future.

I couldn't care less about the compilations, but having Solid State Society an BD is excellent news. Now if they'd just release the full series on BD as well...

The more on BD the better. This is definitely good news.

A localised BD release of the series is unlikely. Manga Ent stated that the license for the boxes is currently being blocked under reverse-importation fears, and even highly expensive £20-for-a-two-episode-per-disc single releases were out of the question.
Aiming lower, a proper localised BD release of the original film would be nice. At the moment, your choices are either import (thankfully the JP release is region free, and includes both the english subtitles and dub), or watch the atrociously bad version bundled with the 2.0 release (upscaled from a LASERDISC master. So bad).

SSS is good though. I'll probably wait for reviews rather than pre-ordering. There's no reason for it to use a different encode than the JP version, but Mangle End don't exactly have a good track record in not screwing up releases.

All of this sounds great because I feel it's just preparation for a new season on the horizon. Kamiyama-san's been dropping hints about it lately, its only a matter of time, I hope.

That would be great. If a third season were to be made I'd hope it would be more like that first season and less like the shitty second one.

Where did you hear that? One of the most notable aspects of SAC is that it was one of the first anime TV shows to be produced in digital high definition.

Let's hope for uncompressed audio for both languages. I can easily see Bandai being forced to cripple the release in that area.

I would get all three but the compilations are lacking the original SAC LA dub which I loved. Soooo just the movie for now Smile
