I'm pretty sure if Deadpool was in an MvC3 he'd be so friggin' crazy even Dante would think he needs to turn it down a notch. Speaking of which, Nero or Dante had better show up as well.

I've never really bought in to the whole "JRPG's are dead" hype. Sure, some titles only managed to sell a few thousand copies, but I have always been one to purchase them. Cheese story or not, they all have that certain charm that all JRPGs have. I work 40 hours a week so it is always a struggle to find time to play every game I want to. Lately, I've been more of a collector than a player. I will play them...eventually.

Thank you so much for that section about J-RPGs! It was very enlightening and I think it'll clear up some misconceptions for a lot of people.

It's a shame that no one played Lost Odyssey; it was easily one of the best RPGs I've played since the PS1 era. Its only real flaw was that it was only released for the XBOX360 (most JRPG fans I know--including myself-- have a PS3 instead and the 360 is pretty much a dead console in Japan, existing only for IDOLM@STER). No wonder their next effort is going to be for the Wii. I wonder why Mistwalker won't publish for the PS3..?

If there was a MVC 3, I wouldn't mind seeing Katt from Breath of Fire II making a appearance [plus it would give a whole new meaning to the term "catfight" if she faced off against Felicia!], QBee from Darkstalkers, Dudley from SFIII/SSFIV and Rainbow Mika, while on the Marvel side, it would be pretty cool if Katie Power aka Energizer from Power Pack made a appearance [imagine all the fun players could have seeing a little girl kicking the ass of somebody like Zangief or Wolverine] as the recent comics featuring her are done in a manga style in any case.

Ah yeah. I hate that. RoF actually sounds pretty cool despite it's rather mediocre reviews. I'd like to check it out but with it's proximity to FFXIII it ends up relegated to my back-list with all the other stuff I'll probably never actually get around to. |

That's an interesting write up about Japanese RPGs, Todd. I had noticed the shift to hand-helds and the logic you outlined (built in young audiences) makes sense. Good column. |

Let me put on my comics geek hat on for a quick moment:
Did you know that Deadpool and U.S. 1 (Now called U.S.Ace) were recently together in one of Deadpool's many books, which is Deadpool Team-up 896? Yep. I own it, read it on a train ride home. US Ace drives a space truck and his brother is a demon... Aaaanyway, I think Deadpool is easy to turn into a Fighting game character. His taunt could be fourth wall-y and you just have to steal some moves from the Marvel games he's shown up in. He's even got teleport! |

That was a great article about the state of J-RPGs.
And it's great that Marvel Vs Capcom 3 could be happening. The first time I heard the rumors this year I thought it was an April Fool's joke. I recall reading an interiew/article on Destructoid that quoted one of the guys from Sony regretting that they weren't the ones who published Demon Souls in the US after it exploded in popularity. It makes me wish that publishers (aside from Atlus and a few others)in the United States would look more into licensing and releasing other J-RPGs. I'm looking at YOU, Bandai-Namco. |

I would love to see Breath of Fire characters (from any of the first four games, specifically: Ryu IV, Nina II, Katt, Bleu II, Scias, or Ershin) or Deadpool in a potential MvC3. Infact, just the mention of the rumor of MvC3 made my day today.

Having Blade and Deadpool in the same fighting game would kinda be redundant, wouldn't it? I would like to see Blade fighting Darkstalkers characters, though.

I too agree US 1 should be in MvC 3. Headbutt attacks, summoning his big rig ala Dio's steamroller finish, the possibilities are endless!
