I really dug the personal touches in this article.
I like to get to know an artists feeling and motivations.
However, being a professional illustrator from Detroit myself,
I find the characterization of the city very damning and typical.

First off, while I am sure the artists family went through alot as resturant owners here in the city. This happens in ALL THE MAJOR CITIES IN AMERICA. Most of the major cities have drug epidemics and depending on where you open your establishment you will probably have to deal with the fall out from this type of stuff.

But for you to characterize Detroit as one of the midwest's most dangerous cities belies a certain amount of media bias I think on the
part of the interviewer.

I find it funny as heck that the artist now lives in BROOKLYN of all places. I went to school at Cornell University and lived in New York for a time and let me tell you Brooklyn is AS DANGEROUS and in some parts far more dangerous than Detroit, despite gentrification.

Still I dug the article... keep these types of articles coming.
