How could the story continue? Maybe the Elrics returning home?

Is this gonna have a new story or is it going to continue where the anime diverged from the manga?
I thought FMA ended really well so there wasn't a need for a sequel but if they do a thorough job then great! Either way this is ecstatic news.

The anime felt so done. I guess they can continue from the movie but is that really the best move. I'm a huge FMA fan, so I guess I will trust that she will make it just as great as it was.

YES!!!!!!!
I hope it turns out to be like Hellsing Ultimate. Starting from volume 7, of course.

I'm a fan of the dub of FMA, so I'm praying that this gets licensed in the future, if not the near future.

Wow. I have no idea what to say to this.
I was actually just thinking about it and hoping it would never come to be. I'm frankly filled with dread. As a diehard FMA fan, I have absolutely no faith in them being able to make a new series live up to the first. There's just no way.
And so, if the second series isn't as good, the fullmetal franchise as a whole will be degraded. People won't be able to view it overall as well, so the whole series will be weakened.
Awfully pessimistic, but terrible true, I'm afraid.
Be afraid, very afraid.

You know Aaron Dismuke no longer sounds anything like Alphonse, right?

HOLY FREAKING MOLY!
I'm really surprised about this. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to seeing this. Hopefully it will be as good as the first series in both storyline and animation.
But, really...what on earth could the story be about?

What's so ironic is that I was just fantasizing about a new FMA series last night.
What I think should be done is to reboot the anime and do a straight adaptation of the manga, ala Hellsing Ultimate. Any filler that's needed could be adapted straight from the light novels (there are some decent stories in there that would look good animated).
Personally, I feel the original FMA anime was a wreck; if they had just stuck to the original stories, it could've been better. I'll be a lot more excited for this if they reboot rather than continue from the movie.

This is huge news for most anime fans, since FMA is a very popular series. I think this is something that FMA fans have been pushing for, and Bones is responding to the fans outcry for new FMA anime with this new TV series.
It's going to be interesting to see where Bones takes the story. The first anime series ended pretty conclusively with the movie Conqueror of Shamaballa, and, in the end, the anime diverged a lot from the manga.
Nevertheless, there is a ton of FMA manga content now that hasn't been animated, so hopefully the producers try to stay true to the latest happenings in the manga. It's gonna be really really tough to weave everything together though.

so? We have Rie Kugimiya to voice Al, if she's not to busy doing Tsunderes
