Nice! I loved the 3DS game, it was fun and had a very off-the-wall sense of humour. Hopefully this new game will allow same-sex marriages between the Miis.

When this came up, I was at first thinking "Okay, this might be interesting" because I got the cozy game sort of vibe right away, but then as soon as we started seeing the Miis, I was literally SCREAMING going "Wait... wait... IS THIS TOMODACHI!?". Then that title drop and I couldn't stop squealing. Tomodachi Life is one of my favorite games of all time, but I never had much hope for a remake or sequel despite the amount of fan outcry every time we got a Direct. But now this is happening, and I couldn't be more excited!

I agree, though. I do hope for same-sex marriage/dating options this time around. Let me be silly and make all of my ships happen. =P

I feel like some parents would complain if the game allowed same-sex marriage, but I agree that that would be a nice addition. Either way, I’m really looking forward to it!

Given Nintendo actually made a public response about making hypothetical future games in the series more inclusive back in 2014, which the article mentions, I'm not too worried about same-gender romance being included. Especially considering there's been... small, but significant progress in some of Nintendo's major franchises since. (The Fire Emblem series has offered same-gender romance options, and even if those options were pretty lacking in Fates and Three Houses they're reportedly better in Engage, and both the Switch Splatoons and Animal Crossing New Horizons refer to gender as "style" but treat the PC pretty gender-neutrally in English, making no comment if you dress in a way that's considered unusual to your in-game body type.)

Besides that, I'm pretty sure the target demographic for this particular genre of cozy/quirky sim game skews pretty LGBT-friendly, at least in the English-speaking market. It's become absolutely standard to the cozy farm sim genre for a reason. Even Square Enix trying to break into the genre with Harvestella added same-gender romance and a nonbinary gender option (beating Marvelous to the punch, even!) and by all accounts the romances themselves in Harvestella were pretty perfunctory. I might be disappointed, but I'm hopeful for now, if only because I suspect we're a bigger target audience than kids who might get the very niche game and might have parents who'd be offended.

Instead, the thing I'm interested in is the fact that romances in the previous game were kind of random. Unlike Sims, it's much harder to get Tomodachi Life Miis to do what you want. Adding in same-gender relationships will just increase the chaos there. The focus on dreams in the title suggests to me as well that they're going all-in on the weirdness and chaos. This will be fun.
