I pre-ordered the limited edition LS DVD online, and it just arrived in the mail yesterday. I was a bit surprised, considering the release date is set to May 6th (I'm not complaining, though!). So I was a bit curious to see if anyone else got their Lucky Star a bit early.
I'm liking the series so far, the dub is really well done (especially Kagami and Tsukasa) and the series itself is a constant reminder of how big of a nerd I am (I basically got all of the game and anime referances without the use of the liner notes, which I always view at the end of the episode). I was quite surprised at one of the extras, I wasn't expecting a shirt (it's an extra large shirt with a picture of the schools summer uniform on it). Overall, I found this to be a very enjoyable series and I'm looking forard to the next installment.

I did get an email for confirmation of shipment, but you're right when you say that it was scheduled for later. Mine is also the LE, I wonder if maybe for those who did pre-ordered it Bandai is being nice about it and giving them to us early. Who knows, but I'll sure be waiting for my copy to show up.

Huh well now this makes me curious to hear the dub. Lucky Star is so hugely entrenched in Japanese pop cultural references I would think dubbing it would be hard let alone subtitling it. I know the subs I watched had a lot of translation notes to go with it just to explain half the crap Konata get's into.
Obviously I haven't pre-ordered it or anything, I liked the series well enough it's just not worth spending the money on in my opinion ^^;;;

My copy is supposed to be delivered today. I was surprised by how early it shipped, too. This is one of the few titles I've preordered, but I understand from others around here that some items get shipped early from time to time.
I often find anime at Best Buy on the shelf well before its street date.

Yeah, anime release dates are funny like that. While I didn't pre-order Lucky Star, I did get a shipping confirmation from Right Stuf a couple days ago for Shuffle! V.3, which isn't due until May 6. I also found Death Note V.4 at FYE on April 4'th when an April 29'th release date was given. Hooray for early releases!

As for me, I think TRSI wants to ship my copy, but I have to resolve an expired credit card issue first. Why oh why did I place the order back in February with a card that I knew was expiring in March?

Obviously the fansubs managed to subtitle it, so why would it be any more difficult for Bandai / Bang Zoom? And other shows that have been deemed "un-dubbable" in the past like Azumanga Daioh and Excel Saga have in fact been dubbed. The fansub version I watched had zero translation notes about the stuff Konata gets into, because such notes aren't "translation" notes at all. To me, translation notes should cover things that Japanese viewers would know by virtue of being Japanese (like linguistic/cultural/religious/political/historical items), not fandom trivia like "Konata is retelling the story of Ayu meeting Yuuichi in Kanon." Notes like that are good extras, but they're hardly essential. Did Japanese viewers get notes about that stuff?
And a general warning to all who read this...this thread is going to be about the R1 Lucky Star release, so if you're here just to say "dubs suck" or "it's not worth buying the R1 release," do us all a favor and stay out.

My copy of the LE shipped out yesterday. What I heard of the dub in the commercial sounded great, so this is one of the titles I'm going to rewatch dubbed (incidentally, the last one I did that for was Haruhi).

Yeah, I received mine in the mail today. I, too, am curious about the English dub version.
And for the people who have already seen the whole show... I wonder how the English VA for Konata is gonna pull off the cosplay cafe dialogue, switching between Haruhi and Konata. That should be pretty interesting.

Mine is still in the post. And considering the distance it has to travel, probably will be for a while yet.

I cannot see a problem considering the English VA is also the same in both cases.

Which I would consider to be a smart move by Bandai.

Mine's been shipped but they had to send it to my home address because of credit card stuff, so I won't get to see it until June as I'm still at uni

Wow apparently I touched a nerve. I'm sorry if I offended you that was not my intention I was merely curious. I just know that shows like Lucky Star and Gintama involve a lot more natural Japanese language and cultural knowledge than most people have.
I am not getting into the dub/sub debate either my stance on that is very neutral in that everyone has their preferences. I happen to prefer raws, that's outside the realm anymore. I also merely stated my opinion on the show itself not the R1 release. I'm rather taken aback that you seem to have read way more into my post than I intended someone too. What are these people going to care about one random internet person's opinion on something they've already bought? Obviously they like it enough and that's awesome, I'm even more thrilled they're supporting the fandom. But yea, I digress. I'm done definitely not touching this thread again. Sorry if I hit a nerve.

I watched the sub last night. I plan on watching the dub tonight. I haven't heard anything from the dub yet. I'm looking forward to seeing with Wendee Lee does with Konota. I've also listened to both CDs included with the special edition about five times.
I understood many more jokes this time around. I hadn't seen Haruhi or Kanon with I was watching the fansubs. That just made it funnier.
And on the topic of items shipping early, I got a confirmation e-mail last night that Kanon vol. 4 is heading my way. Should be delivered Friday. That really surprises me because it's not supposed to be out until 5/13.
