In Japan, they recently released the sixth volume to the amazing series. My question: why is it taking Yû Watase so long? It's a great series but it's taking so long for it each volume to be released. I can't wait until Viz releases it here!!! I've been checking shojo beat's website like everyday I'm so excited.

Genbu Kaiden is being serialized in the Fushigi Yuugi Perfect World magazine. This magazine is not released as often as most other publications out there, which means that only so many chapters come out every year. It tends to be about two complete volumes worth of material a year.

I also believe that, at least at times, Genbu Kaiden has not been the only series Watase Yuu was working on.

So, between having a limited release schedule and her working on other things, it does make sense that Genbu Kaiden is out fairly slowly. I only hope that we will get vol 6 in English soon, because I am desperate for more.

Oh oki, thanks for the explanation. I would buy the Japanese volume but I can't read Japanese and I don't want to spoil the story.

**whines, snivels** Two volumes a year?!

That's going to be worse than Fruits Basket!

Oh well, if that's the way it's going to be...that's the way it's going to be. **sigh**

It's still a good story. Maybe she should reverse it though, more volumes of Genubu Kaiden and only 2 a year of Absolute Boyfriend.

Absolute Boyfriend is over in Japan, so that's not an issue. I think Genbu Kaiden is her only series at the moment.

person#646

I just checked her entry in the Encyclopedia and the last thing listed is something from 2004. Hopefully it is just because her entry has not been updated not that she's stopped producing.

I just Googled and I really didn't see anything but then, I didn't look that far either. Wiki had stuff listed but not by date.

2004? I'm not sure what you are looking at, because both Absolute Boyfriend and Genbu Kaiden started in 2005 (or at least the GN releases did).

Yup, 2004. According to the Encyclopedia. But, it does not say if that was when it debuted in a magazine or if that was when it was released as a graphic novel.

I have my Encyclopedia preferences set up to give chronological listings for people. I don't know how it will appear to you when you click on the link but, 2004 is the latest ANN has.

Genbu Kaiden is my favorite work by Watase besides Ceres and I think it's so far way better than the original FY. I've also seen some artworks by Watase that hint towards a Byakko sequel, so I hope that she would work on that once she's done with GK.

The sixth volume was released around the end of March and I hope that Viz would release it in English during this summer.

I think it is too now, but I'm fairly certain she was working on both those series at the same time at one point.

And that encyclopedia definitely needs some updating Anime dazed

Oh, and yes, I believe she does plan to do a Byakko story at some point in the future, though when is anyone's guess since it took this long for her to go back to FY.

Genbu Kaiden was relased about ten years after the first, so in 2013 the Byakko arc will be released. (I hope not, I can't wait that long! Highly doubt it though since my logic is fallaious)

The Chinese volume was released last week. Can't find the Japanese one on that site.

EDIT: found it!

I'm so tempted to get this, but the pictures might spoil something.

She was working on them both at the same time. I think they both started around the same time, but Absolute Boyfriend ended sometime last year.

Since the first series covered Suzaku and Seiryu, I figured the Byakko priestess would show up at some point in Genbu Kaiden and both would be dealt with in this series.

I hope that's the case!!! Then again, wouldn't the name change to Byakko Kaiden? Does Kaiden mean series or arc? My Japanese is non-existent.

I don't think that Suzano the Byakko priestess will show up in this series. One) she's just a child not a teenager. Two) It was said in FY that having two priestess at the same time was a mistake. Miaka or Yui should have been the only priestess in the FY time line then later on down the road, the final priestess would have arrived.

Yeah, after thinking about it a bit more, it makes sense that the Byakko priestess would be a separate story. Though at this rate, i doubt we'll ever see it.
