I've been thinking about the problem with ordering off online websites. The lack of a credit card.

It just seemed to come to mind that there are different credit card compaines that have gift cards that work like credit cards. You can order one with a certain amount on it, and then spend it at any store.

Does anyone know if this applies to online anime retailers as well?
Or any online stores for that matter?
I was just wondering if anyone had tried this before?

I'm looking at you Rightstuf. Wink

If they accept VISA, they can usually accept these cards. Plus they can be bought from Safeway.

Wal-Mart also sells Visa gift cards. I had a couple of tough Holiday gifts to purchase and I took the easy way out with those. It says they can be used anywhere Visa is accepted, so I'm assuming online is included in that, and the best thing with those is that they are re-loadable. If I didn't have my bank card I think this would be a pretty good option too.

I'd buy one and try it out first though. If it doesn't work out you can always use it at any retail store, so you wouldn't lose the money aside from the price of the gift card (I think they were like $3.50 at the Wal-mart here). If it does work, whenever you want something online, just go to the store and add whatever amount you need.

Here, the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) walks you thru it....sorta.

I have used a prepaid visa card I got at walmart online before, be careful though because there are two types of cards you can get, a prepaid card( money card I think is what they call it) and a gift card. You can go to wal mart and get a prepaid visa like I did and put any amount you want on it plus $8 for the card itself. Now with this card you can use it as it is after that( which would be called the temporary card) or after you buy it you can go online and set up an account for you card to repeatedly use it. The problem I had was that I knew that If I set up an account it would cost about $4 a month as long as I had money on the card, I left is as a temporary card hoping I could just use the money I put on it and leave it at that, but after a while I relized that I was being charged the 15th of every month for the card even though I left it in its temporary state and never actually applied for it, I lost about $20-25 from that so if you get a prepaid card only get it for as much as you want to spend and spend it fast. Now for gift cards I don't believe monthly fees apply, the only fee you have is the cost of the card itself, the problem though is you have to get it in certain amounts, my walmart carries $50 and $100 cards and thats it. And yes, a prepaid/gift visa card can be used anywhere online a visa is accepted, same for other cards.

The problem with these gift cards is they are treated like credit cards. So if you have a return or the clerk screws up the purchase you have to wait like you would with a credit card for 2-3 days for the money to show back up. I constantly got irate people when i worked retail bringing them in and getting mad when their balance was next to nothing because the last store had screwed up their purchase and the money wouldn't be back for a few days. God forbid if it was the weekend. I also personally don't care for AMX as I've had lots of problems with them professionally through work and personally.

What? I've paid TRSI for numerous 25 for $100 sales with CC Gift Cards. Weak.

Your only other option is to maybe find a reloadable CC like GreenDot, or apply for a CC that has a high Interest rate.

Just stay away from AMEX if your sneaky enough. I seriously doubt they can tell the difference between a bank issued card and one you bought at Safeway or got from the bank.

If anyone was wondering they did accept and send my air dvd. I still have two more bundles from the xmas sell on backorder, and I am wondering if they funds are not enough on the card will they still send the order?

I know at B&M stores i can go over by a bit on the cards and still be alright. Problem is, i've been using the car not realizing that "hey, these folks haven't taken their money yet."

hopefully I can find a bank to refill the card. But yeah, they took it.
Tis all.
