A Dark Rabbit Has Seven LIves (TV)
Aside from the bizarre title (a good feature imo) this anime is an incredible mess that I keep watching. I was hoping someone here could explain something about it to me. I find myself much more interested in watching Gekkou and Mirai who are supposed to be the supporting cast than I do the lead characters, Himea and Taito. Another surprisingly worthwhile character that shows up is Izumi, who impossibly makes sense out of a setup where no sense is to be had. They are the only reason I keep watching this -- the "tragic romance" bit between Himea and Taito is a lead balloon. One of the questions that I can't figure out include why does "the Military" have any need for Gekkou and presumably Taito when they already have Yūichi, who seems more than equal to any situation? Is there anyone else watching this that sees it this way? [EDIT: Added the Encyclopedia entry. -TK] |

I'm watching this... I don't know why either. I think Gekkou and Mirai are more interesting than the actual lead characters, guess because I can get a slight chuckle from them whereas Himea and Taito are kind of dull. Izumi is another character I like too... but the love triangle is just a big no. Hell, I still don't know what's going on in this show.

Been watching it as well, yeah it is a big mess, but I still watch it. I agree that the Gekou Mirai thing is probably one of the more interesting points. Though I wish they played more with the suposed age of Himea, she is an ancient vampire yet acts like a stupid teen, can stand it when that keeps popping up in vampire fiction.
Another frustrating part is that the leads are as closs as you might possibly get to an actual couple, yet they have to keep saying that they are not an actual couple, like they can not help but have a harem. Is it really so dificult in anime to have actual couples, they still have to have other options. Probably one of the best was that they had Gekou appear to be perfect near the begining, but actually have some weakneses. He acts super douchey, but his actual thoughts make more sense after a while of seeing what he does not do, rather than what he does. |

Another thing i hate is that the lead is so weak for it to be so close to the end... of course I'm expecting shonen cliche where the character obtains powers from out of the blue and saves the day but that's beside the point, this entire show is basically the lead getting his ass handed to him every step of the way. Like playing a video game where you keep losing and then a glitch happens and you manage to win, that's what the lead character is... he is a glitch. This show should be about Gekkou, his diminished relationship with his brother, and how his brother turned to the dark side is far more interesting than... this "relationship" nonsense between the two leads. |

I agree. The show is a complete mess. I tried explaining it to my fiance and it became:
Vampire girl bites boy and gives him powers to protect her. He can't protect her. She gets sealed away. He forgets about her. He grows up and likes his other childhood friend. There is love theme - it goes nowhere because vampire girl shows up. He now remembers her. He can now die 7 times. He is supposed to protect her - he can't. She has split personalities, one that wants to kill him. The other wants to have sex with him. He ends up dying in some stupid fight. She makes some sacrifice to save him again. He doesn't remember that either until later. Then he wants to be strong. He makes a deal with some God thing. He gains the ability to be strong, but isn't and doesn't. There's also something about the military, the childhood friend looks paranormal, but isn't, and all these other people and a training camp that doesn't do anything either. And then he was the zombie. Oh and he wants his necklace back. I don't know why I'm still watching it. All I can say is WTF? Seriously. I don't get this show, I think the animation is crap and I STILL KEEP WATCHING?! Ugh. Me and this desire to finish things that I start in order to improve... improve... I don't even know anymore. I think I've gotten stupider by watching this. |

It's just easy to watch. It's what I'd call a casually friendly show. It doesn't make you feel uncomfortable, doesn't expect you to invest in it at all, and it's a perfectly fine way to whittle away some time without stress. Sure, it's not good, but sometimes you just want a show that occupies your attention without demanding anything from you.

To me, right away, it smacks of one of those anime adapting a pornographic VN thus I gave it more liberties to be more vapid and don't take it too seriously.

I've been watching it too and can say the plot has just been a huge let down. I am normally all for clusterf*** shows like this but this one just gets worse and worse as it goes on. Nothing seems to get resolved and they add players way to late in the game who we cannot care about because of no characterization.
I do come back each week to watch though. As much as it grates my nerves that nothing actually happens, I still enjoy watching it. |

Ha ha. Great writeup we should submit that for the encyclopedia. I guess you didn't mention the fan service to your fiance. |

I stopped watching it an episode or so after they went to the beach. I so lost interest. I may pick it up if I'm extremely bored, but there are much better things to do, I think.

I was surprised that there was a cameo of a can of VB (a beer from here in aus) in episode 12, I have seen products make appearance in anime often, but that was kind of a surprise. Not to uncommon to finish with fan service breather episode, did not mind it really.
I guess that I should feel a bit bad that I kind of want to see a another season, there were several things I enjoyed and a couple I might like to see. I like Himea when she is out of her sterotypical anime girl characteristics, talks about killing others without an issue. The show hints she puts on the act of being so sweet and innocent, like how she sounded one way but reverts back as soon as she sees Taito. Rather liked that the guy did not pull of a deus ex machina in winning a fight, but it would be great to see him actually release his potentel. And Gekkou's mature and reserved attitude that he really rarely lets drop, where he actually cares about Mirai. |

Hated this show. It started good, got all muddled with stupid stereo-typical story points, did a ton of things that didn't even make any sense, and didn't even finish the main story line. It looked ugly, didn't allow the main character to really do anything, and just dug itself its own little hole and died in it. I hope it doesn't get a second season. Saw some hint of an OVA or something somewhere and I hope that's fake. This is quite possibly the worst show I have ever watched.

I just finished this and it was a complete clusterfuck of nonsense writing and terrible characters/voice acting. The show might as well have not had a plot since they explained next to nothing and just kept going towards the masterful conclusion that was foreshadowing what is seemingly what the story is actually about for about 3 seconds in each of the last two episodes.
It might have been more tolerable(though I doubt it) if I hadn't already seen Korewa Zombie Desuka which is essentially what this show was attempting to be except KZD was well done and entertaining. It wasn't the worst anime I have ever seen but it was pretty close to being the most poorly executed. |
