My guess, they're working on new program for the Switch 2. Still a bit disappointing

I would hope so. Considering the shut down Club Nintendo for this and now you’re shutting this down?

Let's hope so. Maybe they'll just use platinum points going forward? Lucky Xenoblade X will still count since that's 4 days before the end date (I plan to get the physical edition as well) so a great First party game to close out the program.

It wasn't a particularly good reward system. You got, what, 60 gold coins per new game? And 1 coin equals 1 cent. So 60 cents per 60-70 dollars? Even fast food apps had a better ratio of points to money spent.

Like it's stated in the article, 1% for physical games and 5% for digital purchases. So $3.00 for a $60 game. Add in all the small digital games and it can go pretty far. I've used it to pay for Switch Online when it was very barebones.
Thinking about it a bit more I'm wondering if a weak ¥ is the reason for the change?

I guess they’ll do something new for the Switch 2. I’ve been a Switch online customer for years, seems Platinum Points are very sparsely awarded now too. Not that I really want a Kirby key chain or a Zelda notepad, but that’s all I’d be awarded if I cashed in the points I currently have.

You'd still have to pay for the shipping too. Though SE does the same thing, which I think is pretty scummy.

It wasn't much, but it was still nice to get. I'm sure there are people who have bought a small game or DLC using some gold coins to help cover part of the cost that they might not have otherwise.
Hopefully they'll be something for the Switch 2. Platinum coins are staying, so I guess they haven't completely dropped the program.
Guess I should take a good look at my wishlist before the end of March though

I bought pretty much all of my Switch games physically, so those points were essentially useless to me, especially after they discontinued the few digital rewards for them. Now Platinum coins I'm all in on. Gotta get every icon element for no particular reason!
