Am on the fence about this. I've specifically gone out of my way to avoid investing in Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 because I just don't feel like paying once again to do sort-of "more of the same thing". Enter Strive and Versus Rising - I think both games are probably some of the most pleasant times I've had since Guilty Gear on PS2 with a fighting game. I'd outright say that more people really need to give Versus Rising a fair shot (it's mostly F2P), as I come off of Granblue matches way more than any other fighter feeling good vibes about matches.
.....and yet that trailer just washes over me and I feel absolutely nothing. I'm not a mainline Granblue fan, and so I'm not entirely sure I'm the target audience for showing off characters - I'm likely to check into a season pass purely just to keep playing - but is it just me or did all of those characters bleed together just now? I actually had a hard time being able to tell who was new or not, and some of them also being Relink DLC doesn't help.
And it's a damn shame because I just don't think Versus Rising is ever going to get the sort of eyes on it that a new Strive announcement would. I'm actually insanely excited to see what Lucy is going to play like over there. With this trailer here, it's just kinda like.... "yay, more Granblue?"

Honestly, no - if anything, they have a problem showcasing the characters to the anyone who is not a mainline Granblue fan and not know who they are and how different they are from the current roster, but also for mainline fans this pass was filled with literally massive crowd-pleasers (Sandy, who's being the top of popularity polls for years; Galleon and Wilnas from the hot pitched for years and pretty welcomed around in fanbase group; Ilsa - who despite being already pretty old character, still have the popularity remain and been asked to be included in Granblue Versus for years even before Rising - heck, even Meg, who was initially made as a joke character for a wacky event, is certainly not a pick that nobody wanted) and totally hit the strings, probably even more than the recent GG Strive character passes.
Though if anything, I more wonder what ArcSys can cook for their kit (cause I have the real trouble to imagine Galleon as a fighting game character) or how they differentiate them from the already existing ones.
Also god damn it, this EVO generic pop track in the trailer barely fit Granblue, which have way better sense in soundtrack.

Yeah, it's very hard to differentiate some of the characters here. I'm really good at recognising the core cast - especially anyone from Relink - but I cannot for the life of me understand how Sandalphon stands out from Wilnas as far as their originating game goes, and Wilnas already looks similar to a few characters in Versus. It means more opponent variety though, that's a win for an already-packed roster. I'm not at all complaining, I'm just pleasantly surprised interest in the game has survived this long to warrant them releasing more characters when I hardly ever hear people talk about Versus these days. Relink fell off pretty hard and fast after launch too.
Yeah, agreed on the music. It sounded like one of those really bad early vocal RWBY songs, but then Granblue has some really odd vocal moments like Existence (VS Beelzebub) - I figured this was just one of those moments, but I see it's from a YouTuber now that does vocal covers, and the track legit sounds like some of the really bad voice acting/monotone singing from the earliest of early days of RWBY. It's.... there. Hopefully not an actual track one of the new characters is using, and is just for that particular promo (I went to the JP posting of the video and was baffled to see they used it too).

I guess this is the kind of franchise to always have characters they can still add to this fighting game roster.
Also, Meg butt shot.

I honestly don't understand what you're saying here man, what a bizarre and confusing comment that's demeaning to the game for no reason. If you don't care that's fine? No one is asking you to get hyped for characters you obviously don't know about since you don't care about the IP, but like, what were you expecting to feel lol. Did you want more silly guest characters that clog up slots that series fans don't want to see?
I would say I'm a casual Granblue fan, though I did love Versus, Relink and Rising, I haven't played the original mobile game at all, but I knew of these characters, and at the very least Ilsa is one I've seen people get hyped for ages. And even without much knowledge on them, Wilnas and Meg look cool enough that I'm so down.
"Some of them being Relink DLC" is also a weird thing to say, it's only Sandalphon, and one even slightly cursory look into the guy tells you he's a pretty significant character that's very popular with the fanbase.
Like this is just a weird comment to me, I'm super pumped for this and real excited to jump back into a new season of the game. Sure it'll never be as mega hit popular as SF6 or T8, but those are oooold franchises that have long since established themselves in the history halls of video games. Granblue is super new relatively speaking and I think Rising has done a great job there. Also weird to complain about Relink falling off after it's launch when, no it didn't? It wasn't a live service game, it was just a normal video game that had a couple of post launch DLC updates. So people played it and finished it like a normal video game and then moved on. Nothing weird about that at all and it sold over 1 million copies in the process, it was extremely successful! I feel like you're looking for issues and problems where there aren't any honestly. If you're not hyped for the DLC fine, but there are plenty who clearly are.
