Hey there! It's time to nominate in our very first... Reader's Choice Awards 2024!

Osamu Dazai (Sensei)
From No Longer Allowed in Another World. I thought I was done with the isekai genre but this one convinced me there is still a bit of a spark left in this overexposed and overly derivative field. What other show would have thought of, or dared, make its lead character's thirst for suicide into a super power? It lead to a very unique and memorable lead character. |

Despite the controversy the series got Aqua from Oshi no Ko seemed the more interesting. The second season explores his mental trauma by acting to the point he loses or appears to avoid revenge. His relationship with Akane was also properly used as despite using her, he realizes he is hurting her feelings and changes their dynamic.

Akira Sato from The Fable.
Not the best adaptation but the voice acting salvaged it. The book is better, etc. but the protagonist managed to come to life in anime form. Last edited by residentgrigo on Tue Dec 10, 2024 10:01 am; edited 1 time in total |

D from Go! Go! Loser Ranger!
His achingly human quest for self-actualization and respect is immensely compelling. His quick wit in battle and impulsive decision-making outside of battle keep things moving and entertaining. And most of all, he's just really damn funny. Last edited by FilthyCasual on Tue Dec 10, 2024 9:16 am; edited 1 time in total |

Badeni from Orb
Yeah, the guy's a pompous asshole, but it's the way he's a pompous ass which makes him so intriguing. There's a forthrightness, intellectual honesty, and purity of motive to him that I find fascinating, and that he doesn't seem to be bothered in the slightest by working with a woman despite the era is another point in his favor. |

Natsume Takashi from Natsume's Book of Friends. He's consistently been one of the best boys in anime with a great slow burn character arc. He's easy to root for and empathize with, and it's always nice to see a male protagonist get to be sweet and gentle the way he is.

Nukumizu from Makeine
He is what I would call "Schrödingers' RomCom protagonist". Well, technically he is the protagonist in a RomCom series but Nukumizu is not the target for the dumped heroines who lost their first loves to another woman. Nukumizu is more like the guy giving mental support to the girls and this is what made the show special. As the novels never got released in my region I can not tell if the feelings will change but for now this is okay. |

Laios Touden from Delicious in Dungeon
I'm not sure why multiple people in this thread have both misspelled his family name and listed it before his given name (Northern Continent Tall-man names in Dungeon Meshi follow Western naming-order conventions). |
