This (Gin Rei) and the Giant Robo OVA it spun off from are stand alone titles, right?

The Gin Rei specials should be watched after the main OVA, so not standalone from each other. But as a whole, you don't need any prequisites.

Will s-CRY-ed get the Blu-ray treatment? If so, it's on my buy list. If there's no HD masters, then why not do SD-BD like they did with Marmalade Boy?
