Man....... Etotama: 494 units, Denki-gai vol. 5: 350 units, and Garo vol. 3: 329 units. That's it? That's gotta hurt. Ouch

Wait how long has Etotama been on TV (or streaming) in Japan? Surely it would sell more if they waited a couple of weeks?

I'm ecstatic that YYIH is faring great at the top.
On the other hand, I'm sad that Etotama isn't selling so well, which is a shame, since I thought it had some great laughs.

That was strikes me as an odd thing - the show's 2nd episode aired on 16 of April. The home-media was released (according to the Chart) on 15 of April, a day before the episode itself aired proper.
Another thing is those sales figures - the bottom 10 starts at 746 units and closes with 275 units. Is the Japanese animation market really that small?

Yes, anything outside kids anime is shockingly minuscule business.

The late-nigth tv anime market is rather small, yes. Which is why BDs are so expansive.

I'm also enjoying the show.
But to release the home-media this early in the Season (this is still the month the show premiered in), the studio needed to send the finished episodes to the manufacturer before the TV stations even got them.
I can't comprehend this...

This has happened a couple of times over the years with the same results. It could be worse, remember Haitai Nanafa and the BDs/DVDs being released almost a year AFTER the 2nd season aired.

It should be noted that millions of people watch, but few can afford to buy the discs. So those who do have to be really, really picky. Consider the order of magnitude differences in manga circulation numbers and some poor sellers based on the said manga for example. There are many fans who are still watching, even if there only a few hundred people actually buying.
The animation market also serves as advertisement for merchandise and other licensing, whose market is many times larger than video sales. It also should be noted that Naruto sells very poorly too, at about ~1,000 DVDs/vol last I saw.

And with dozens of series every season, there's not enough consumer monies to go around to support them. The numbers won't line up.

But hey, Etotama has just started and they are already selling BDs? I feel that reaaaaaally rushed, especially for a show that just has two episodes aired. They must know what they are doing, right?
