I'm still concerned about the sex appeal in the game (I'm not against its inclusion, but it certainly doesn't make the characters look like they're more than cookie-cutter tropes). Didn't the last Digimon game with this artist's colaboration have sex appeal, too? How "mature" was its story and how well were the characters written? More curiosity than discontent...

Yeah I was going to say the same thing. Im not a huge fan, but isn't Digimon kid oriented? Some of those designs look pretty fan-servicey. Nice, but more what I would expect in a game for an older audience.

While it kid-oriented, Digimon has done this even in the previous shows. |

Fan service is not a big deal in Japan like it is in the west. Plenty of kids shows in Japan have it like One Piece and Fairy Tail to name a few. Digimon has always had sex appeal right back to the first series with Angewomon, LadyDevimon, and other monsters. Even in supplemental media like the card game art. It's nothing new to the franchise. |

But that was the Digimon. For the humans, who are typically younger kids, this sort of fanservice looks somewhat unusual for the franchise. |

This game (like Re: Digitize) is explicitly targeted to more adult fans, that's why in this case they've chosen a sexier character design and a more mature general tone.
Most Digimon fans, even in Japan, are in their twenties, if not even older. This game is targeted to that audience. |

This is the answer I was looking for. Though I'm curious as to your source. I don't doubt it so much as I just want to be able to cite something and I can't find anything myself. |

Greatly appreciated! At the very least, they're open about its target audience, and I approve. With this and the new anime due, it makes me wonder if they're going to continue targeting their adult fanbase. |

This doesn't say anything about it being for adults, it just mentioned that people who grew up with Digimon are now adults. The game, and previous games like Re:Digitize, recieved the A CERO rating, which is the ESRB equevelant of E for Everyone. These are children's games, not adult games. Only America would have issue with the character designs, these designs are normal for children's games in Japan. |

Man, it would be fantastic if this game could get localized.

There is a difference between a game that is okay for children and a game that is aimed at children. Given the platform choice and the statement on the website, it's clear that Cyber Sleuth is going for an older audience. Does this mean Digimon is not a kids IP? No. It means Bandai Namco wants to sell older fans a video game. Bandai Namco is selling kids Digimon video games too, with the likes of the older Xros Wars branded DS games and All-Star Rumble. |

Whether Cybersleuth is 'for an older audience' or not, it's not the reason for the sexualized designs. Previous games for children had these exact kind of designs before. Not only Re:Digitize which was by the same designer, but Xros Wars had plenty of those designs like Lillithmon and Mervamon, and even the kids like Akari and Nene had fanservice elements in the anime.
All Star Rumble is an American aimed title, though, and not really comparable to the other games, so it's probably the most US kid friendly out of all of them because of that. It'll probably have no sexualized designed due to it being a western game. |
