Oh, so Sony's finally found a NEW action-franchise to try and merchandise as a demographic studio brand-name, and don't need to shove Resident Evil down Playstation fans' throats anymore?

Maybe Paul Wes Thomas S Anderson just got tired of continually making garbage that no one liked just so he could force his wife into roles. Did anyone at any point ever like Milla Jovovich except for The Fifth Element? She made better movies when she had a better director for husband.

I'm sad the series is ending, as it definitely picked up when Anderson returned to the director's chair for 4 (Afterlife).

Say what you want but I found the films quite enjoyable as turn-your-mind-off-look-at-Milla-and-action entertainment (Although I understand that it would be incredibly difficult for most people to disconnect the films from the games as they aren't really much of an adaption at all, and the films DEFINITELY have some pretty large faults of sue proportions).
I'm excited for this final film as the 5th was rather disappointing outside of a few scenes in terms of the plot but implied we'd be back on track for the next film. And with that, I leave everyone else to rant along as I definitely understand why people dislike the films (I hadn't played the games until after my friend forced me through the first 4 films anyway so even though I knew WHY they were bad adaptations and what they did wrong, I had no preference towards the games). |

I thought the films were not very good, whether viewed as stand alone with no relation to the series, or viewed as connected to the series.
I mean the one guy basically hit the nail on the head, it appears to be the only way Jolovich got any work, so Anderson kept making the movies, not that he has much more talent then his wife anyway. I agree, I love Fifth Element, and its one of the better sci fi films in that group with total recall, but the RE movies are meh. |

Nah, they're going to have her do more Ultraviolet movies.  That's a joke BTW, for people who didn't get it.

Poor Paul Andersuck. He'll be forever known as "that Resident Evil and that one good Mortal Kombat movie" guy. And I guess Milla will be known as "that Resident Evil and Fifth Element" gal.
walw: You're mixed up a bit. Paul Thomas Anderson's the indie darling who gave us Oscar-nominated films such as Boogie Nights and There Will Be Blood. Paul W.S. Anderson gave us the AVP films. 
Mr. Adventure: It'd be nice if they finally let George Romero do his take on RE.

Good. Maybe now, we'll get a reboot that follows the games. Hell, get George A. Romero. Knowing Sony, the reboot will come in at least five years.
We live in a world where the third movie/reboot to "Mortal Kombat" gets stuck in development hell, and yet the RE movies are successful enough to get just as many movies as there were games in the main series. |

That's exactly what these films are, "turn your mind off, 2 hours of fun entertainment". So I agree 100% with you there. These are just all around fun movies to watch. But let's be honest, the vast majority of movie goers want these type of movies. Transformers, X-men, Spider-man, Catching fire etc. People go see these movies to escape from everyday life and let their minds drift to enjoy movies like these. Most people don't want to sit for a thought provoking, deep character development drawn out storyline with a powerful deep musical score. But then again, most of us watch anime for these very reasons and thus why we're on Ann talking about this topic in the first place. |

Don't care what the haters say at all--the Resident Evil movie series turned out to be an intriguing but mostly just fun underrated saga in its own right (without going so far as to call it high art), each individual one making me curious what was in store for the next time. The only one that came even close to disappointing me was Retribution, since that one felt less like it was advancing a story and was more like filler. No doubt there will be a reboot, but I look forward to the final film with Alice after all this time and see what awaits at the end of her journey after everything she went through, even if it's not guaranteed to be a happy one.
