The Eisner Awards alternative oriented counterpart (sort of), the Harveys, have just announced their nominations. Three manga series recieved nominations for best foreign : The Push Man, BLAME! and Buddha. I'm glad there wasn't a near shutout like some years, but to be honest I'm a little disapointed. Push Man and Buddha are deserving, but tell me they couldn't find a better title than BLAME!. I mean, it's a fun adventure, but that over Yotsuba&!, Berserk or Sexy Voice and Robo (not enough promotion as this would have really appealed to the Harvey crowd)? I suspect Tokyopop's promotional prowess to have something to do with it. In any case, it really doesn't matter because Epileptic will probobly kick the competition's ass and win the prize, and deservingly so. On an OEL note, Dramacon has been nominated for Best New Series (again, Tokyopop can really promote their stuff). It doesn't have a chance at winning, but it's nice to see some recognition going to one of the few good OEL series. |
