I'm wondering, is this just the Japanese software and voice library with the interface in English, or did they resample Saki Fujita's voice to produce a new voice library to be in line with English phonemes? And if it's the latter, how does it compare with other Vocaloids that were produced as English-language synthesizers?

Yeah I assume it's just an English localized version of the software but the voice libraries will still be the same.

@Configspace: Nope, Miku was completely rerecorded for English use.
They resampled Saki Fujita's voice to produce a new voice library with English phonemes. How does it compare? Miku English definitely has a thick Japanese accent. Her accent is a little heavier than Luka's, slightly heavier than Kaito English's, and a lot heavier than Megpoid English, as well as Vocaloids recorded by native English speakers. Someone recorded the demo of her, if you want to listen. And here is one from last year as well (but that's beta). There are other recent videos with Miku English (a remix of Zedd's Spectrum and an English version of Tell Your World) but those had Miku edited by a user who tends to manipulate his Vocaloids' tonal quality much more heavily than most, so it might give you a weird impression of how she actually sounds by default. |

In that case, it makes little sense to go ahead and rerecord the English phonemes. Any song Miku English sings is going to sound too Engrishy to make it appealing, so it kind of defeats the purpose. Will this version also feature the Japanese phonemes? If not, there's really no reason I see to buy it. |

I have no idea if they're planning on packaging Miku English with the rerecorded update of Japanese Miku they've been talking about, but since they've been advertising it as Miku English and not V3 Miku, I doubt it. And phonemes of two languages have never come in the same voicebank in the past, so that's unlikely now.
Her accent is thick, but it's still better than JPN Miku--English Miku can say Ls, for instance, though she usually mispronounces them as English Rs. And she can say words like "universe" mostly right ("uneeverse") where you'd at best be able to get "yunibaasu" out of JPN Miku. |

I'm kinda looking forward to it. There have been quite a few english vocaloids recently which have been a massive improvement on V2 (never been much of a fan of the english ones, but I love the new ones, they're so clear). I kinda hope this means the vocaloid will become more popular in the west and we'll have lots more english vocaloid songs.

@Altorrin Thanks for the clarification. I wish they would have gone with native English samples, but tweaked to fit the same vocal style instead. I was also wondering if it would come with the Japanese version. It would be most unfortunate if not... I personally can't see much use in solely English Miku, unless one specifically needs an Engrish accent. I think the vocaloids by Power-FX, Zero-G, etc. would be preferred among those needing English

I have to agree with Shiratori1 here- you're expecting way too much if you're thinking that Miku's English voice will be without her Japanese accent when it's all done. Besides, I had virtually no problem understanding what she sang in her demo song, considering that her accent has actually thinned out quite a bit since her last demo song ages earlier. As for the R/L aspect... It seems that this is the same situation that Kaito had in one of his demo songs some months earlier. He pronounced the word cloud as "croud" instead. It really isn't so much that Miku mispronounced her L's but that she pronounced the letter R instead, and that's due to the user using the letter R in words that are supposed to be spelled with L instead. Hence, it's safe to say that if Miku can pronounce the letter R correctly, she'll have no problem pronouncing the letter L correctly as well. |

One, I'm not expecting anything. I'm merely stating that she has a thick Japanese accent and that it is thicker than that of other Vocaloids. I knew she would sound like this and the fact that I knew this doesn't make her accent any thinner. And two, uh, no, Kaito actually does have difficulty pronouncing Ls, because even after his release, English users can't make him say "look" properly. It is not a matter of someone using the wrong phoneme, he just can't pronounce it right.
It is not debatable. English Miku has English phonemes (including about 20 vowel sounds, L, R, th, and V). Japanese Miku only has Japanese phonemes (five vowel sounds, no L or R besides the alveolar tap, and no th or V). She has no support for English words. If you want to try English despite that, input is restricted to one Japanese mora per note. You can't put an "s" sound by itself, it has to be "su". Which one might sound nicer to you is a matter of preference, but the one that has pronunciation closer to a native English speaker's is English Miku. Also, your comment about "English language elitism" might be a little misplaced, because this is supposed to be an English release for English users. |

Let's try this again (because its pretty apparent that you didn't get what I was trying to say in my first post). To say that English Miku is better than Japanese Miku based on the fact that she can recite the"l" and "s" phonemes from your precious language that you can't live with out IS DEBATABLE and gives off the impression that you are an English language elitist that has something against the Japanese language and its phonemes. Additionally, complaining that the English voice for Miku has a Japanese accent and that the Japanese voice for Miku isn't capable of saying words like "universe" in the fashion you want DOES sound like nitpicking and feels like another instance of implying that English is a superior language.

This will be Miku on the latest Vocaloid3 platform. everything you have been hearing even in the concerts has been on V2.

For the purpose of a vocaloid that will sing in English, accurate production of English phonemes is desirable. Just as, for the purpose of a vocaloid that will sing in Hausa, accurate production of Hausa phonemes is desirable. No implications that any language is superior to, or more "precious" than, any other, are made.
