Hey, I was just wondering if anyone knows how many tankoubons have been made so far for the Genbu Kaiden manga. I checked the encylopedia and it only lists the 4 English volumes. I just received my copy of volume 3 and in the sidebars Watase mentioned that the manga is coming out 2 volumes a year, so I assume that there are around 5-6 tanks, but I was wondering if anyone knew for sure.

I'm pretty sure that currently five volumes have been released in Japan and six issues of the FY Perfect World magazine, which was released in August of last year. There's a lot of info on the Foreign Lullaby wesbsite: http://ambersolle.org/genbu/perfectworld.html

Thanks Anime smile

I guess that would definitely explain the four month intervals between volumes being released in English...the translation is most likely going to catch up to the original before too long.

If that happens, then it might turn out like Fruits Basket, where they'll have to slow down since they were catching up with Japan. (Before one Furuba volume was released one month after the other, but now it's released like every four months.) Then again, that was Tokyopop and we're talking about VIZ here. Yet, VIZ is doing a pretty darn good job in translating Genbu, especially in the release schedules. You think they'll be selling the FY Perfect World Magazines? They were selling the Kanzenban (1 & 2; completely Japanese) for a limited time on the online store. I just got it for Christmas because it was a good collector's item. Hope they would!

That would be nice if they did, I was just looking at some stores where the magazine is sold and it looks really spiffy. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Viz usually does release things a bit faster than they have been doing with Genbu Kaiden, so I expect that they are purposely trying to go slow, because they are only a few volumes behind the Japanese release. It would make sense.

The original FY series is finally almost all out though, which is exciting. Vol 18 comes out on the 11th Anime smile

Then all they'll have will be Absolute Boyfriend and Genbu...I think they are going slow with the former there too, because they don't want to have the collected volumes get ahead of the serialization in Shoujo Beat.

Oh well, maybe they actually will translate the FY novels, that would be nice. I figured if they were planning to they would wait until the manga translation was complete for the original series.

Furuba was only released monthly for about three months, right before they switched to three-four months between releases. Before that, they were released about every two months.

As for Genbu Kaiden, Viz isn't exactly giving it a speedy release anyway. And remember that FY used to have really long waits between releases as well.

Correct. When something is being serialized in one of their magazines, they volumes won't be released until all of the chapters in it have already been published in the magazine. And it seems that they are usually released several issues after the material has been in the magazines.

I'd be MORE than happy to buy the novels. I also would buy the Ceres novels as well!
