Was the manga X ever finished by clamp, or did is it still in limbo?

Last I heard it was still in limbo. No new chapters, but no message saying, "Hey, we just can't finish this sucker."

Well, on their website, X (along with Clover!!) is listed under ongoing works, so I assume that it's still in limbo. 'Tis quite a shame - they seem to have more or less abandoned it, instead working on other series (i.e., Tsubasa and xxxHolic). As for whether or not they will ever continue X, your guess is as good as mine.

I forget. Just why did it go into hiatus to begin with?

Everyone needs a "life work" that they drag out over the course of their lifetime. Tezuka had Phoenix, Shirow has Appleseed, so it's only fit that Clamp have X!
Actually, I have no idea why they're dragging it out, as I'm not a big fan of that particular series. Because they're a four person team, I'm sure Clamp comes up with a ton of ideas and they probobly have to make compromises to accommodate everyone's ideas. They probobly have shelved it so that they can work on projects that they really want to get out, and will finish it over a period of time (unlike Shirow, they actually keep buisey with other projects).

I have a feeling they just got sick of it. This series(if you count TB), has lasted almost their entire career. With their recent ventures into works for older women and seinen manga, I have a feeling they didn't want to be held back by this monster they'd created. They've made tons of endings for it(in the TV series and movie, etc.), but I have a feeling the manga ending is far from near and they just can't bring themselves to work on it when the end is so far away and they have so many new things they want to do. Maybe they will bring it to a close, maybe they won't.

I've actually heard that Makona has arthritis, and has trouble drawing with such detail anymore, thus why their art has taken a turn to more stylish simplicity. I hope it isn't the case. :(
