Yeah, I think this show is a VERY strong case of having to be a fan to get the most out of it. It's similar to the game enough that you're gushing over seeing characters you love in animation, but it's different enough to keep you wondering what's going to happen next. If you end up enjoying this series, even a bit, I heavily recommend checking out the game.

This anime isn't completely based on the game however. It's more of an adaptation of the "manga" series that followed the release of the game, especially when it's like the middle of the series.

The game was good, heck, great. But the anime verison, it was pretty dull, heck, very dull at the start. People who hasn't played this game will, like most game to anime, be turned off. Hopely SqaureEnix will rereleases, be it the PSP or DS.

Actually Square Enix, JPN re-released Star Ocean: The Second Story but it's still for PSX. =\

It's likely just cashing in on the recent success of Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. It's very noticable that the only really strong licenses that Squaresoft got out of it's merger with Enix (now Square Enix) were Star Ocean and Dragon Warrior/Quest.
EDIT: Just a side note I thought of. Don't expect to see Star Ocean released on PSP or DS. PSP won't have it because there are much better uses for the PSP's power (equal to a PS2) than porting over a PSX game. Any ports will be PS2 level. DS won't have it because, while the hardware is around the level of the N64 (which was slightly stronger than PSX), Nintendo is pushing developers to find new, innovative uses for the dual-screen handheld, and the only innovative thing an old RPG could do is put all of the action on the top screen and all the menus on the bottom touch screen, which is a really "easy-way-out" use for the screen. Then again, Square Enix is remaking Final Fantasy III (Japanese version) for the DS...

*Points out the Classic Game Series on the GBA.* Really now? There's a rumor flying around about the 7 was the next to be seen on the DS, which is can be hold somewhat true because DS cards can hold up to and over (as time pass) a GB. That and the touch screen will make it easier to go though the menus. Maybe down the road after a couple more Star Oceans.

...and? What's wrong with that? I'd take Star Ocean 2 over any Square game any day. Only a couple of Final Fantasy games are really any good, and no, seven isn't one of them. I really think that Enix is the strongest part of that tem in terms of making great games goes.

But the Classic NES Series was on the GBA, no the DS. Nintendo's fine with letting it's mini-SNES handheld die, but it definately wants innovative ideas for the DS, especially since it can't compete with the raw processing power of the PSP.

I never said whether or not I thought that any particular game was good, I was referring more to the financial strength of the companies. I'm fairly certain that Squaresoft was making much more money on its strong franchises than Enix was making with its (fewer) strong franchises. That being said, I did play FF7 and enjoyed it, though it was hardly worthy of the title "Greatest Game EVAR" like so many fanboys want to brand it. A solid RPG of the time, but it doesn't quite age as well as other "Greatest Game EVAR" games do (RE: the fact that Zelda: Ocarina of Time is still a very impressive game). Speaking of which, where's my Zelda anime?

If it was competing. Nintendo already stated that. That or Nintendo just pee in it pants and doesn't want anyone to know about it.

Give me a break - if S-E or who ever think they will make money off of a re-release on the PSP they are going to do a re-release on the PSP. S-E has already stated that they have no intention of doing a PS2 re-release for a game as long as the PS1 version of the game still works on that console, however, they have already hinted at re-release some older games on the PSP.

Squaresoft doesn't exist as anything more than a brand name anymore, much like SNK (which merged with Playmore.) They've been totally absorbed into Enix, and a good chunk of the staffers left during the transition to join Sakaguchi's game studio.

I guess the near exact port of the original Ape Escape that was released on the North American launch date is just a figment of my imagination.

Yeah, Nintendo likes to say stuff like that. Face it: anything game related is competition. Even though they are targeted at different aspects of gaming, they will compete. Any GBA sales cut into Xbox sales, so that's an example of unlike competition.

I'm referring to the actual game licenses that Square and Enix brought to the table. In terms of game licenses, Square had the stronger properties. And yes, I am aware of Sakaguchi's Mistwalker studio.

Fine, I misspoke, but the fact is that Sony is pushing developers to do more stuff with the PSP then just porting over old games. There's a very low chance of seeing PSX ports compared to PSP games. Also factor in the fact that Star Ocean, as an RPG, is not as mainstream as a very solid platformer made by Sony that sold pretty well.
