Kurokami is a recent release adapted from a manga created by 2 Korean mangakas (originally called Black God). However I don't know if it technically counts because the manga was initially produced for the Japanese market, so it was first published and released as an actual Japanese manga.

I'd like to know if an original Korean manhwa became popular enough overseas to warrant a Japanese anime production.

Blade of the Phantom Master is based on manhwa (called Shin Angyo Onshi). That's the only one that springs to mind but there are probably more.

I never read the original Manhwa, so I don't know if the anime was based off it or the game in general, but Ragnarok seems like it might fit in this some where.

Yeah that definitely qualifies as an anime adaptation of a manhwa. The anime may be based more off the game than off the book but, I'd say it counts. Thanks.

Any others?

Once again, kind of stretching it, but the upcoming anime "Winter Sonata" (anime#9706) is based off a Korean live-action TV drama.

I just don't know why Korea doesn't make their ani(which is how animation is called in Korea) based on their popular manhwa by themselves. Since Japanese anime companies are outsourcing some of between works to Korea,Korean animation style has become just like Japanese one(as well as manga style to manhwa). So I think they can at least make their own animation just like anime which is based on manhwa and call it ani instead of anime.

Maybe a reason is because the difference in Korean currency and Japanese yen. Also, maybe Korea isn't in high enough demand for making their own animated adaptation of their manhwa.

Imagine one hundred thousand weeaboos saying "ZOMG IT'S NOT PURE ART LIKE THE ANIMES OF GLORIOUS NIPPON" at once.
