Well, I could say I've seen Voltron as the first anime I've ever seen when I was in 3rd grade in 1985, but the first series that I watched when I became more aware what anime was, was Dragon Ball, Yu-gi-oh, and Pokemon, but that was when the famous seizure episode that Pokemon had and it was all over the National news at the time. At that time I didn't know that much about anime, and figured all anime was like that.

However, I didn't download fansubs until May 2003, and didn't start buying what I downloaded until Aug 2003.

Probably the bastardized, chopped-up Warriors of the Wind, back in don't-remember-when. I knew I was still in school so it must have been many years ago. Before that I watched everything, cartoons, anime, whatever. But I always knew that some of them (anime) looked different and had a different tone.

It's hard to say, because 1) I was waaaay too young to remember the names of the series (just remember all the funny moving pictures Very Happy) and 2) there's just too many to name.

I can put names to a few of them, though.... Let's see... there was Dr. Slump, Yoroiden Samurai Troopers, Saint Seiya, Dragonball, Sailormoon, Doraemon... there were also a few that I don't know the names of... one in particular that I can recall vividly is this weird cooking anime, where the characters would always (without fail) jump up (complete with big sparkly background, giant wave optional) and shout "That was SOOOOOOO delicious!!!!!" (or something like that). They'll then go on to explain just why the food was so good. This happened in almost every single episode, btw... It never failed to crack me up! There was also this one magical-girl type anime that had something to do with flowers and fairies.... and many, many more.... Oh! There was also one with a talking orange (and white?) cat; I found out the translated name of it a long time ago by chance, but I don't remember anymore... it's not "What's Michael", though....

If anyone could help me put names to these, it would be great Smile *wanders off to try to remember more*

Later,
Ames

Hmmm, that's a difficult one. Y'see, I used to go to a friend's house ALL the time and we stayed over, so we watched various different animes. I THINK the first one I saw was Street Fighter when I was twelve. But I could be wrong, possibly Pokemon. But then again I didn't even know what anime was when I was younger, so I could be wrong.

DragonBall Z which I think started running chopped-up on the Kids WB in 1997.

The first one I saw that I recognised as anime was Samurai Pizza Cats. The weird thing is, I don't remember anyone ever telling me it was anime, as my family and friends had never heard of anime before. I just sort of knew it was somehow Confused Anyone else found this with their first anime?

Ok, I know it is old and maybe won't be useful...

There's already a thread of this, or more or less. You may find it better, since it has more pages and that...

Most probably Voltron. Of course I do have very vague memoreis of seeing a show with blue aliens, so maybe I did see Robotech back than aswell, but I'm not quite sure which came first. I did have the die cast Voltron lions from a very young age, say like 4. Those were pretty tight. The first anime to make any last impression on me though was Galaxy Express 999.
