Ah yes. Peace Maker Kurogane. I bought Vol.1 of the DVD w/ box, which also came with Vol.1 of the manga as well.

I like it so far. It's very Kenshin-ish, though a little darker since you see The Shinsengumi killing off a bunch of people here and there.

The show also has a very Kenshin-ish comedy style too. It's not quite slapstick, but at the same time, they switch between being subtle and just plain wacky.

If you have a surround sound system, the audio does make a difference too. I was finally expecting a praise-worthy dub from ADV (since I haven't found a dub of their's I like yet Anime cry), but unfortunately, I think the 5.1 track they did detracts a lot from their voices.

I mean, good gracious they sound so dull some times and the Japanese version has so much more bass in it, even though it's only 2.0. Shocked

Not to mention they (the dub) does a whole lot of that "Osakan=southern accent" thing, which really sounds out of place, in my opinion.

But then again, as we already know, dubs are just a personal preference. Anime exclamation

The animation is interesting. I've never seen a samurai anime done by GONZO, so it's kind of refreshing to see, I suppose. It's very fluid at some spots, but also looks a bit weird when they try to incorporate the C.G. (not something you see everyday with samurai Razz). It's still pretty good though.

The soundtrack consists of a mixture of rock and classical Japanese instruments, which isn't outstanding, but not too distracting. The opening and ending themes are rock songs, but I find them very catchy actually. Wink

The story is kind of cool, but with only 4 episodes, it doesn't build up too much. The main character, Tetsu, will sort of remind you of a young Kenshin, if that means anything to you.

And as for the manga, it's also pretty good, but the anime doesn't quite follow it, except for when they introduce Saitou in episode 4.

In conclusion though, yeah, I like it and gave it a Very Good rating thus far. If you like Kenshin, you'll probably like this.

Yeah, good lord that southern accent thing is starting to drive me up the freaking wall. I don't care if they had an accent in Japanese, for god's sake it is a TOTAL disconnect to hear a Meiji-era geisha woman surrounded by sakura petals say "ah well little ol' me dun' think yew boys needa use a sword naaah!". It's so awkward and unnatural. In Azumanga Daioh it kinda worked because at least we're in modern-day civilization, but Peacemaker is dripping with Japanese history. Leave the goddamn Texas accent out of it.

I highly reccommend the Japanese version of Peacemaker. The English version is basically a complete misfire.

Im in the process of watching the whole series and so far, I don't like it's story. Yes, the ridiculous rock opening and closings are catchy, the characters extremely funny and the pet pig beyond cute and that works....except this is suppose to be a story about the SHINSENGUMI and Peacemakers oftens forgets this. That's not the only reason I don't enjoy the story. The plot is so jumbled. Each episode is about 18 minutes of crazy comedy and the other 4 minutes are used to tell a side story which doesn't connect with any of the plotlines for a good 6 episodes.

So, yeah, if you want a series that makes you laugh, I'd recommend Peacemaker. It succeeds as a comedy, but fails as an interesting samurai series.

I found the show mediocre at best. I'm sure alot of people over in Japan love it because it deals with the Shinsengumi, but I never saw anything to be impressed about. From the obnoxious rock/rap openning to the boring plot, there is nothing special about this. As Golgo said, the plot is very jumbled and never comes into focus until the end of the series. While these last couple of episodes are exellent, they can't make up for the rest of the show. Also, there are too many characters in my opinions, and because of that they are forces to rely on molds for many of them. Some are interesting though. Oh, and maybe its just me, but the pig is so freaking obnoxious. I really wish someone whould just have turned it into bacon. I guess alot of people will love this series, but as a fan of samurai movies and manga, I can't see anything special about it.

Hmm. Well, I think I understand a little bit of where the plot is going after reading Vol.1 of the manga.

Actually, Kurogane is supposed to be a continuance of sorts from the orginal Peace Maker manga (which isn't available in the U.S. Anime cry yet).

I believe the first 4 episodes are really just there to introduce the characters, which is OK with me, but as far as plot is concerned, it's basically about a boy who's trying to choose his future. -- Does he want give up his humanity for the sake of revenge, or will he realize the absurdity of it all and become a "Peace Maker?"

I found the action to be pretty nice, though not as frequent as I would prefer. In fact, I can say a few parts even remind me of Samurai Champloo (but only in respect to how people get cut up Razz).

I also like the story (or what I think it will lead to anyway) and am hoping it will make a very nice tale in future episodes. But of course, I can't make a final verdict until I finish it. For now though, I'll just say it's very decent. Wink

Lots. I mean like, a majority of the townspeople and I think one or two main characters have that awfully out of place accent.

I'd round it to about almost a dozen, at least (could be more, but I stopped listening because of how much it annoyed me).

Watch the dub at your own discresion first, but try not to listen to it that long if you don't like it straight off the bat. You can't go wrong with it in Japanese, as they have some pretty high name seiyuu. Wink

One thing that irks me is when people claim a dub "is bad at first, but I got used it."

It's either good when you first hear it, or it's not good enough. Razz

Well, dub studios can change the voice cast at any time for various reasons and it will sound different. I remember after the fourth episode of Reign Tokyopop changed the ENTIRE cast.
