I'm a Disney stockholder and I won't sell my stock or approve of the merger. I don't like the idea of a distributor like Comcast owning content like Disney. Disney owns the ABC network as well as its cable networks including ESPN. What will Comcast do when it controls the content of the national news? Also I use a cable modem from Comcast, I hope I won't be bombarded with disney ads when I'm trying to check my mail. I hope this doesn't go through, but I don't trust Eisner when he says he's not interested in Comcast's offer.

Aaron: Even Roy admits that Eisner helped in the beginning, but his investments as of late have been foolish and costl. Plus as anime fans, we have an even bigger reason to be pissed with the company, seeing as they've been ripping off anime and burying Ghibli films which would've stayed buried if Spirited Away didn't win an Oscar. Plus Disney doesn't even respect their own domestic classics, with their edits of Roger Rabbit and Fantasia, and their refusal to release Song of the South. (If you see Roy's site, he linked a fan site of the movie, which obviously means it's Eisner who's pulling that PC sh*t.)
As for media conglomeration, it's already happened under Disney. I don't think changing the owner's going to make a difference. Perhaps it'll help them make up for Go.com . Bishop: Vivendi's a European company, and Universal ended up being sold to NBC. Near: " I'm a Disney stockholder and I won't sell my stock or approve of the merger." It's your loss. Keep waiting for Pirates of the Carribbean 2 and Home on the Range to save the company. "Disney owns the ABC network as well as its cable networks including ESPN. What will Comcast do when it controls the content of the national news?" Perhaps not allow a racist like Rush Limbaugh on ESPN? Personally, I'd rather have a soul-less corporation running a soul-less corporation, than a soul-less CEO running a soul-less corporation. Again, support Roy at www.savedisney.com |

Gatsu, I'm going to bite my tongue as far as your Rush Limbaugh comments are concerned. I'll leave at "We disagree" because it has nothing to do with anything we're talking about here.
First off, I wasn't aware Who Framed Roger Rabbit was edited. I admit, I've only watched the movie on TV and on an old VHS I bought from a mom & pop video store that went out of business. What were the edits? I can guess what was censored in Fantasia; The last sequence, Night on Bald Mountain. Am I right? After all, it did have bare-chested harpies and wild demonic revelry. I like the Comcast buyout idea if only because it means the chance of a new direction at Disney. I don't know if we'll ever see Disney as it was in its heyday, releasing films like Fantasia and Sleeping Beauty (when you get right down to it, Sleeping Beauty is marvelous, and it was probably the movie Walt was most passionate about making), but we may see steps taken to give Disney back some of its luster. Change is inevitable and necessary. Whether or not it's a good change can only be seen with time, but it's time for a change at Disney. |

Vivendi owns Universal now (but not for long as they've agreed to sell it to GE) but they bought if from Canadian liquor giant Seagram.

Speaking as an animator and artist I am still angry over Disney's role in making the Lion King (Kimba rip off).
I just looked at the save disney web site. I hope that Mikey will be kicked out and some else can do a better job. It was high time some good came out of Disney. ranmah |

This has all the hallmarks of a power play to get Eisner out and Roy Disney in. I'm old enough to remember when Walt was running things and Disneyland was the only theme park in the world. Now the only product that has manage to keep bringing in the profits for the company is an English creation of bedtime stories that the author wrote for his son in the early part of the 20th. Century, which Disney controversially purchased the rights to. A.A. Millne's Winney the Pooh. I don't think Disney purchased Miramax, or Pixar. They just had out-sourcing contracts with them. One of which Pixar has just severed because of irreconcilable differences with Eisner. Vivendi was a French bottled water company who's MD went riding the 80's and early 90's "buy now, pay later" stockmarket wave that later crashed on the rocks with "payment in cash now overdue " warnings. This MD is now the subject of a French government investigation for business fraud and the founding family who have regained control of Vivendi are trying to clear the books of all the buy ups that should never have been bought in the first place. This is an ongoing story for Vivendi.

Just an incentive to kick Eisner out. From http://www.songofthesouth.net/news/index.html:
I recently contacted Roy Disney and Stanley Gold after learning of their decision to resign from Disney's Board of Directors. In my letter I pledged my full support and also took the opportunity to ask Mr. Disney if there was any information he could provide on Song of the South's status. He was kind enough to provide me with the following reply: Dear Mr. Willis - thanks forr letter of support, and I am sorry to tell you that this is yet another reason to do our best to move Eisner out. He has been - far quite a few years now - totally against (I think AFRAID is a better word) of re-releasing Song of the South, which happens to be one of my favorite of the old Disney films. A number of us have tried, for some time, to change his mind, to no avail. So that's all I can tell you right now. It would be one of my first acts if I were to come back to the company! Hope that helps, although I know it's not the best of news... Roy Needless to say, it is clear to see where the support lies in the release of this film! So, I highly encourage all of you to take action and support Roy Disney and Stanley Gold in restoring Disney to its original glory! |
