I'm with you there, but there is one that is even more irritating right next to her: Koukin. In spite of her own mother's constant urging he never manages to nail Hakufu. Never even tries.

I like it but the first season was not as good as the new ones.

So, why do you like Ikki Tousen,

I was drawn to Ikki Tousen for the chicks fighting in schoolgirl outfits. I still play fighting games on occasion and the school fighting aspect of the genre was something that I hadn't seen much in anime since the days of Ranma 1/2. I have seen the first season and some of Dragon Destiny. I am enjoying the manga more than the anime.

what do you think it's strength's are,

* The story concept of reincarnated spirits from the 3-kingdoms fighting in modern times
* The character designs for most of the characters
* The conflict of fate vs. free-will
* The campy overdramatic narrator and presentation style
* The fanservice

and who is your favorite character?

I'm tempted to pick Ryofu since she's the reincarnation of Lubu (my favorite 3 kingdoms character). But a lot of IT fans like Ryofu. Thus I vote for Kaku, who I wish the toymakers would release a figure of. Her scheming entertains me and I'm curious to see how her story ends.

Since the series puts a lot of focus on the female characters, the guys tend to get overlooked for this kind of question. I think the coolest guy in the series is Taishiji for his strength and sense of honor.

I do hope that in addition to Ikki, you've recommended the Bee Train trilogy to him, Noir, Madlax and El Cazador de la Bruja.

I did consider those titles, for about three seconds. You see, unfortunately he has the tiny attention span of a toddler (I'm only slightly exaggerating), and if there isn't a fight scene or T&A on offer he switches off. I mean, he dropped Black Lagoon after episode three, despite sitting through a huge bar shootout scene and then watching a Hind getting blown up by a torpedo. He treats "Girls with Guns" very seriously; if the current show is not entertaining enough then he'll move onto something else.

You are ignoring the cultural differences. In Japan, there is no incest taboo regarding cousins.

Frankly, I am not certain where this arose from in the west, since it is not mentioned as an incest taboo in the Bible, either.

I'm not about to compile a list of how each character changes (it's been a long time), but the changes are there in small amounts. This thread is making me want to rewatch the first three seasons.

OK. I'm not trying to be a douche nah I am. Doesn't that also mean the characters don't change much at all? "...small amounts..." Character development hmm. Significant change in character or growth. Yeah I'm pretty sure Ikki is lacking in the growth department. Change? Well I think I covered that. Waste of time if I repeat it again. So what is left? You tell me because I don't see it. By you just saying "they do" is the same as saying "I don't know." Obviously "I don't know" is not a real answer. Anyhow, to simply resolve this you could just ask the community since it sounds like you don't want to properly answer the question. Well people? Do the characters in Ikki grow or change at all throughout the seasons? If so how?

Yes. That question forces you to watch and do something other than bsing. IMO, I really don't care much for Ikki, but yeah answer. Something to do.
Oh and btw, something like learning the kamehameha watev is not character development. That's just called learning the kamehameha. Actually surprised someone used that as an example of character development lol.

@Kruzer
uh, no actually the anime is just enemy attack and strippers. You wanna say story OK. Be surprised if you say that this anime has a complex story:

3-4 schools fight each other in order to control the region. Reason is because our ancestors told us to and we got earrings. All 26 episodes about fighting each other in order to gain control. This anime has more fighting and strip scenes than the norm ie the story, if one exists, sucks. Its a common tactic used in film where you distract viewers from the simplistic boring plot w/ action scenes. That is pretty much the story...action scenes. Oh I see enemy.....attack.

@others
The plot for all the seasons are pretty much the same. Also one of the franchises weaknesses. It doesn't change. However, ironically, it's unchanging plot is one of it's strengths:

1. Bad guy exists
2. Bad guy makes himself known and attacks the good guys
3. The good guys respond by attacking him or her
4. The bad guys manipulates one of the good guys...meanwhile still attacking each other (#4 doesn't occur in all of the seasons)
5. Hakufu watever or one of her friends saves the day
6. The end

What it comes down to. If you have a lot of time on your hands sure, but if you don't, pick and choose. If I'm in the mood for soft core porn anime fine Ikki is on the top of my list. If I'm not in the mood for garbage I think the choice is fairly simple since numerous of other superior animes are out there.

Yeah, it does. No one has claimed that the series has award-winning character development. Many of the characters remain mostly the same. I simply wanted to point out that the franchise is not void of character development for the uneducated posters responding to the OP.

I didn't want to "properly answer the question" because I've been too busy to rewatch the series; although, if you want to give me your definition of character development, I might be able to give some examples off the top of my head, or when I do get around to watching it.

Is simplistic synonymous with boring? I don't think so, but it's your opinion. The first season has 13 episodes and the other three have 12 each, so I really don't know which 26 you're referring to.

With regard to the unchanging plot, your layout really only matches Xtreme Xecutor, which has the simplest story of them. However, if you want to loosely interpret plots at face value, almost any action/adventure anime could fit that template (except for the name Hakufu, obviously).
