Look, I know the Lupin III specials use the fake death thing a lot, but do they really have to give that detail away? It's practically saying, "Yeah, the old man will be fine."
I just hope it's not as awful as the past few specials. |

It doesn't sound like a very appropriate concept, given what I've heard about how "short of breath" Naya-san sounds on the recent specials.

What, just the recent specials? I'm pretty sure they've been keeping Goro Naya in cryogenic stasis since the 1990s, unfreezing him and propping him up in front of a microphone just long enough to say "Lupin, you're under arrest!" before wiping the drool from one side of his mouth and putting him back in the fridge as Japan's top scientists struggle in their still-futile efforts to transfer his voice into the body of a Galapagos turtle capable of living for over a century (aka the "Don Pardo" process). I dig them all, but the cast of Lupin is seriously O-L-D and sounding it. Someone in the most recent Hey, Answerman! column noted how they couldn't stand Yasuo Yamada's voice. It then dawned on me that the only Lupin the 3rd you can conceivably buy in a B&M store in the US today featuring Yamada's voice are the early TV specials released by FUNimation. Come his final (?) turn in the role, Dark Order of Assassination (I think the US title was "Voyage to Danger"), Yamada's voice was noticeably warbled-sounding. I can see how people would be turned away. EDIT: Got my years mixed up. I knew Yamada's final year was 1994, but the 94 special was what got released in the US as "Dragon of Doom." Kurita's only 51! That's a spring chicken compared to the rest of the gang. I really hope Yamada wasn't the only one who made sure to have a replacement lined up.
Also, that was me in the Hey, Answerman! write-in, and I've seen a whole lot of Yamada's older work; I just never liked his voice. It did definitely get thinner and "warblier" as the years went on, though. Oh, and also? Of course it's a fake death. If anybody actually thinks that the Lupin franchise is going to kill off any of its main characters, ever, for any reason, they don't know the series very well. |

Jigen and Fujiko still sound fine to me.
Goemon sounds pretty hoarse; I wonder if that's why his role is always so limited in these specials. |

Just an FYI, Discotek also released out two Lupin III movies. One anime and one live action.
Edit: They are going to release out another one titled, Lupin III Episode 0: The First Contact. |

Always good to hear about another Lupin special in the works. I've never watched any of them subbed yet so I dunno how they're sounding, but I do hope they have replacements lined up.

Have you seen the last few? Though some of the worst premises end up turning out some pretty fair specials. Napoleon's Dictionary from way back was rather fun, if not that great. |

Yes, I'm certainly aware of what you are referring to. The thing is, premises alone rarely make or break a Lupin movie/special. Yet there are things about this particular one I personally dislike.

This one doesn't really interest me as far as plots go, but I'll give it a chance when it does come out.
The cast IS very aged, but it's not likely there'll be any replacements for them any time soon unless one of them died. You don't just change a cast like that, and they're probably wanting to avoid the same issues that Fuma Conspiracy caused. As for Yasuo Yamada's voice...well, I've seen it been called 'warbly' and 'annoying.' However, given Lupin's personality, it was an appropriate fit in my honest opinion. |

This is sweet... new t.v special hopefully i can watch!
I hope Zenigata doesn't die for real he's the best guy in the whole Lupin III everything!!!! Naya Goro thanks for being Zenigata for all us viewers
