MatsuKen is in EVERYTHING nowadays, isn't he...
If Nino's in it, I just might have to watch it. He's a good choice, since he can actually act...

Hopefully this means the rebirth of the anime.

I came very close to expleting in utter disbelief when I read the title--and the concept wasn't even something I would have ruled outside the realms of possibility.
But still...!

I don't know, they'd either have to restart it from scratch or pretend that stupid final arc from the TV series didn't happen. Maybe they could say it was just a nightmare Kurono had.

Well, since I doubt the series will conclude quickly enough for the script for movie 2 to reflect it, I hope whatever original ending they come up with is far better than the garbage we got in the anime.
This will definitely be R-rated, but I wonder how far they'll go. The mass-murder scenes in Kurono's school, and the ones committed by Izumi and Nishi were pretty disturbing stuff. I just hope they have more of the post-anime characters in the movies, since they were more interesting and had more of a bond with each other.

Since the movies are going to be "live action," I think it's a sure bet that they'll begin at the beginning. After all, usually the point is to try to appeal to a different/larger audience, you know, like "Blood." Uh, wait... Like "Death Note." No... Well, you know what I mean.

What, is Japan trying to prove it can screw up a high-concept manga? There's no way you can do a Gantz movie, unless it looks like Ichi the Killer; and that probably costs a fortune. Oh, and Princess Blade totally blew, so I'm not even sure why you'd want to give that guy more work.

Man, watching Nino act in this will be pretty amusing, especially when I can't see him as any of the characters.

Do they have the financial backing to implement all the special effects that we see in Gantz though and still look good. I remember seeing Ryuk in the Death Note live action and how it didn't look realistic or even good enough to be believable. Hopefully they've improved.

The cost of this movie is said to be around 4billion yen, the maximum amount usually invested in a Japanese movie production. It will be a general rate movie (unfortunately) but I hope they'll retain the risque-ness and the gore just to stay true to the original.
Princess Blade was a 2001 movie. I believe the director might've done better work after that.
Too bad I have to wait 2 years to watch this.

If you've watched Ao no Hono you'll find him fitting Kurono just fine.

i dunno, i thought the stupid final arc pretty much went full circle. you'd have to ignore the little bit after the mission ends, sure, but other than that, it ends in pretty much the exact same place it starts.

Man I also wished they would continue the anime instead, sans the last episode that gave it a fake ending, going into the nature of the game, what happens when you do get enough points, other newcomers, etc. and finally finishing the series, maybe in another 26 or even 52 episodes. There's no way just 2 movies can do the entire Gantz manga justice.

moans: My point is you can't make a movie version of Gantz and make money off of it, if it's excessively violent. I know the Japanese went for Battle Royale, but if there was no controversy, it probably would've bombed otherwise.

Contradiction comparison you made there don't you think? But now that you've mentioned it, this might be the next Battle Royale but with more funding and starpower. I hope they'll deliver a kick-ass cg seeing the production time takes about 2 years to complete.

moans: Not really. If BR did not have controversy, it would not make money. And that's what happened with its sequel.
