So, does anyone have an inkling what this new series is yet? A remake? A sequel? An in-between-quel?

It seems pretty clear at this point that it's going to be a remake, staying closer to the manga than the original series.
That commercial has Ed looking like they drew the lines for him way too thick, too. I liked the first anime's designs a little better.

The character page has artwork with very thin lines, almost like they just colored the manga or something.

I believe the trailer is based on the opening/ending, so the art could be a bit different that the one in the actual anime, anyway I'm loving it.
I'm happy beyond words, FMA is one of my favourite manga of all time, and I wished for years that they made a new anime adaptation... but I didn't expected this my dream of mine could come true after they made the old, still awesome series!

Yeah, the commercial does look like it would be something that was in an OP or ED. I wonder who they're getting to do those, song-wise.
I'll be missing Michuru Oshima's musical score, though.

You know, I really don't like where this is going to be honest. I thought the original anime ended really good, course I maybe the only one who thinks that, and the manga doesn't seem to be going anywhere and I just stopped reading it cause I was getting bored with it.

The manga is wrapping up. Speculation is it will end the same time as the anime.

I'm very excited, having just watched the trailer. This is going to be FMA like we have never seen it before. I'm quite pleased that the new series will be sticking closer to the manga than the first.

I'm really looking forward to this new anime. I'm a big fan of the manga adaptation of FMA. The anime is fine up to the point where it goes in a complete different direction, compared to the manga that is. There a lot of points in the first anime series that I, well, hated and don't even get me started on the movie...
Anyway, I like the look of the characters, this time around, they look a lot more like the original art from the manga. It may not seem that way if you look at Ed and Al, but look in the ''characters'' section of the website and you willl see (well I think so anyway) by looking at the military characters that their design is slightly different from their old anime counterparts.
One thing I am dissapointed in...I wish they had put more characters in that section of the website to see if the characters from the Xing empire are included in this anime....
Well have to wait and see, one thing is for sure, it will be better than the first anime adaptation...Besides, the manga is almost over, so at least this time, well get a good ending not some half-baked one....(can you tell that I really didn't enjoy the anime)

That'd kind of ruin their reveal, though, for the people who haven't read that far in the manga.
I gotta say, I'm already missing the character designs from the first series - even though the new ones are basically the same, they just look chunkier and more awkward. I guess I'll reserve judgment until I see them in motion, though, since after all we're still in the promotional art stages.

"Sticking closer to the manga"...do you REALLY want to watch the same exact story you've read before? It's called an ADAPTATION for a reason, not an imitation.

Some reveals may not have the same emotional impact since we've seen 'em before.

Yes please
The fights from the manga are incredible, and I can't wait to see them animated.

Yes. Most of the time when an animation studio goes off in a direction seperate from the manga, it doesn't turn out good. See Bleach and Naruto fillers for obvious examples. Animators are not storytellers. They should only animate the story the author wrote and not make their own material up. IMO anyway.
.: edit :.
Also, like the person above me posted, the fights from the manga are very nice. Looking forward to those.

i don't know, i'm just not as excited about this series as everyone else. i personally think the manga storyline is terrible. the anime had a really strong plot with interesting twists and turns, while the manga feels generic and just plain lazy at times. the story behind Hohenheim and The father has to be one of the most pathetic things i've ever read. on top of all of this, Mizushima's not directing this time around.
but on a lighter note, i do like that the lesser characters got a bit more development in the manga. i'll probably watch this, since much doesn't seem to be coming out this spring.
