50% huh?

Hmm,last several times I've checked, the US did not embrace Astro boy.So what makes them think this movie is going to change that. What movie going demographic are they aiming this towards?

Though I did like Imagi's TMNT movie,I would hope Astro Boy (somehow) finds an audience other than nostalgia freaks.

Astro Boy doesn't wear a shirt.

I demand that little boy take his shirt off!

Hmm, probably not the best wording.

Too bad he has a shirt on =/ (movie is probably going to be G rated anyways.) Based on the manga hmm? I wonder how good the manga is compared to the anime. I hope this movie is decent knowing that their up to 50% now. They can't kill Astro Boy T _ T

Laughing I'm sure the shirt fits into this storyline somewhere down the road. He'll probably be back to wearing just hot pants for you purist folks out there in no time.

I mean despite the hair,he'd be a black sheep out in public anyway.

I don't want to even want to imagine, what else you think it could be rated.Besides, there is enough ero doujinshi on astro boy as it is.

Um...Astro Boy was extremely popular back when it was broadcast during the 60s. I know of several people in my parents' generation, including my parents, who know little to nothing about anime as a whole yet fondly remember watching the show when they were young. (In fact, my mom still remembers most of the theme song, which surprised the hell out of me. Smile) This movie is relying on precisely that sort of name recognition: middle-aged folks will think back to their own fond memories of the show and take their kiddies to see it.

In any case, the teaser trailer that was released looked very promising, so I'm glad that this work stoppage is temporary. This is definitely on my to-see list when it gets released.

It's a shame crap like DB can get funding, but a quality production like Astro Boy could bankrupt Imagi. Crying or Very sad

Ya know back in the 60's when there was...5 T.V. channels or a newspaper and some coffee.Mmmmm.(This is,of course, assuming you're an American.)

It's no doubt most of them have heard of it.That doesn't make it any less special interest.I would think most of these nostalgic folk would be thinking of how they are going to survive from here on out,not how it felt to see astro boy on a black and white T.V. in the 60's.Hell man,I hope I'm wrong.I want to see this movie do good.I want to see it more than DBE,and I'm one of the biggest Dragonball fans there is.I hope imagi finishes it in full force.

Do you really think there would be enough of a nostalgia crowd to keep this movie afloat? Sure tons of people have "heard" of Astro boy,but will they go see it.

Same here.Keyword "temporary". I can't wait to see it.

If production is only halted until next week, then why even bother making a statement about it? We wouldn't have known otherwise.

Well, a kid's movie is a kid's movie, and kids usually don't need any prior knowledge to enjoy one. The adults who know Astro Boy from their childhood will probably enjoy the nostalgia factor, but I don't think this movie is being made strictly for them. How successful will it be? Who knows? But I imagine it'll be way more successful than Gatchaman.

First Dragonball, now Astroboy. What's next, Cowboy Bebop? I had really hoped that at least Astroboy would not turn out to be like Speed Racer or even worse, Dragon Ball.

I really hope this doesn't turn out to be as bad as Dragon Ball or Speed Racer, but the fact that Astro boy looks like Jimmy Neutron, I am not sure at this point.

Shadowrun: I actually think Astroboy would be a great idea in a crappy economy, since it's so optimistic, especially since the main character's a guy who generally gets rewarded for doing the right thing. Plus, people can relate to his confusion and frustration over the opposite situations sometimes occurring.

Astro Boy = the one anime adaptation I thought had a chance of being actually good, precisely because they were keeping it animated. The manga is a cute children's series, and I think a flying robot boy who saves the day would be popular enough with kids. It's not as though the most popular kids' movies in America are all based on previously well-known characters; look at the success of Kung Fu Panda.

Besides, they should all get exposed to Astro Boy so that they can even better appreciate Urasawa's Pluto when they grow up. Wink (first volume is less than a month away, kya~~~h!).

Seeing how the two cg models are completely different. It's pretty obvious the one in your post is old compared to the one in the article which is from the new trailer.

Ok seriously this has to stop. I'm considering starting a formal protest group against tainting and destroying anime in the form of whatever the heck this is. Dragonball was one thing, there's no way to stay true to the "plot" but astroboy is a classic that started it all. They have to realize that money is not going to matter. The majority of people going to see these american adaptations are just gonna be people who wanna see how it is. This studio needs to wake up, pick up a pencil and get as far away from cg as possible. Otaku's are not just gonna stand by forever while hollywood destroys what we hold dear. And that's real, true life filled anime. Not lifeless Cg that has no hope of staying within anyone's heart. Is there anyone here who agrees with me? Sure, I know I'm probably out of line on this fourm speaking out against anything but I have to speak my mind about this as an otaku. If this continues even the god of all movies each every Miyazaki treasure will be destroyed. Rumors of a Live action Kiki? Please something must be done to prevent this. Protest groups, letters, cosplay army lol

Oh, and to the above yes, sadly there are talks of cowboy beebop being massacred as well.

It seemed to vary from town to town. Where I grew up, Toledo in 1963 only had three TV stations up (one sharing ABC and NBC, another for CBS and a NET public broadcast channel), but there was 2 local newspapers in print. I often think kids living in New York had it TOO easy where they were. Aside from The Big Three, they've had WNEW (channel 5), WOR (channel 9) and WPIX (channel 11) on the same VHF dial to watch for alternatives to the networks. I think Astro Boy debuted on WNEW then.

Quote:
It's no doubt most of them have heard of it.

My parents haven't. Aside form learning Fred Ladd once lived in my hometown so long ago, none of the local stations had Astro Boy on at all, though I think CKLW up in Windsor aired the program in the mid 60's. Detroit had it better than we did, but we could still pick up the signals either way.
