2004 PRESS RELEASES
VIZ ANNOUNCES RELEASE OF SECOND EDITION MANGA TITLES

Second printing of titles from VIZ Action, Editor's Choice and Shôjo categories represent epitome of the genre.

San Francisco, Calif, March 18, 2004 -- VIZ, LLC, one of the leading publishers and distributors of manga and anime content for North American audiences, announced today the release of second editions of several of its manga series that represent some of the best selling, most loved and popular titles within the genre.

The titles being reprinted for a second time will cover diverse selections from VIZ's Action, Editor's Choice, and Shôjo categories. Second edition titles from VIZ's Action catalog include INUYASHA, RANMA 1/2, BASTARD!!, BATTLE ANGEL ALITA, NEON GENESIS EVANGELION, and VIDEO GIRL AI. VIZ Editor's Choice second editions include Rumiko Takahashi's MAISON IKKOKU and Hayao Miyazaki's NAUSICAÄ OF THE VALLEY OF THE WIND. The tremendous popularity of shôjo manga, or comics aimed at young girls, has also spurred VIZ to release second editions of BANANA FISH, REVOLUTIONARY GIRL UTENA, and Yû Watase's CERES, CELESTIAL LEGEND and FUSHIGI YÛGI.

Well this is good news.

Pity it's incredibly dated news. The rereleases began being released last year. In fact you're hard pressed to find any first edition Viz titles on store shelves anymore.

If Viz is announcing third editions where they're unflipping the flipped second editions ("Inuyasha", "X/1999", etc.), then I'll be happy.

As part of VIZ's continuing mission to popularize manga domestically, all of these titles remain true to the artistic and narrative layouts of the original editions,

Now, what does this mean for the EVA manga? Will the second edition have both a flipped and unflipped version?

I'd assume they'd continue with both instead of giving a proverbiale finger to those who have bought one or the ohter from the begining.

Shouldn't this thread be in the manga section?

[EDIT - Good point. It's been moved. -C]

It's just a pity that some of the re-releases are still flipped. Evil or Very Mad

Actually we were just talking about the Eva rerelease here:

animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6273

From what I've seen, Eva is at least unflipped, but I don't know for sure. I'd guess that the others are too. The article did say

I think they are referring to their own "original" editions, rather than the native Japanese editions. Unless I'm very much mistaken, the new releases of Ranma, as well as Inu-yasha remain flipped.

Yeah... when I posted that on Shonen Anime I was wondering what it meant... because they've been re-editioning them for over a year, yet it was on the top of their news page...

I'm guessing and hoping that Inu-Yasha will be unflipped... I cannot stand reading the manga and then watching the anime... I get all confused... Anime dazed

And also, remember that all of the title listed in that article were originally FLIPPED. Hmm...

They are. I don't know what the point is, unless they're planning a third edition to milk the Takahashi fans dry.
