No. They don't compare. And I don't agree with our invasion of Iraq, mind you.

For something that is depicting some horrendous acts of brutality and inhumanity, that manga was beautiful. I wish the images were higher quality, because I'd print it out. I wonder where one would obtain a copy of it.

This should be shown worldwide. It's the Maus of the Pacific War.

Japanese (and East Asian) culture and Islamic culture are totally different: While the East Asians prefer to serve to someone superior to them (like the Americans for the Japanese & Koreans), their Western Asian neighbors prefer to die rather to being the slave to some foreign power like the U.S.

Jesus Christ, the arrogance. Yeah, I'm sure the Japanese really wanted the US to invade them, and they've been very happy all these years to have American military bases in their country. It's not like they ever wanted the American military to leave their country or anything. (Also, I'm sure the Japanese would agree with you in that the US is superior to them. Especially the more radical nationalists.)

No, but many aspects of their culture (due to the Confucionism) allowed the Americans to control Japan with more ease than Iraq right now.

First of all, you missed my point. What I was trying to say is that there's nothing in our invasion of Iraq that compares with the Rape of Nanking. I think making such parallels does nothing but belittle the suffering the victims.*

Secondly, I think your assertion is completely off base. Aside from being completely different situations (an all out war against the nation as a whole that left the ruling figure in power afterward vs. a limited war against a nation's ruler), it ignores the Chinese and Korean attempts to throw off their Japanese rulers during the war. On the other side, it also ignores the century or so of French and Brittish colonialism in the middle east or the even longer period of Turkish rule in the region.

* Not that the US hasn't committed it's share of atrocities. Just look at our treatment of the Indians or the Philipine-American War.
