It's not the kind of numbers you see from more mainstream films, but definitely not bad for what it is. I'm happy to have contributed to a successful US theatrical run.

For one week and less than 800 theaters this is a pretty decent haul, especially when broken down per theater. Prime Video probably sees it as a decent investment because of that success. |

I can say the same thing, not since Gundam Wing, no other Gundam anime titles was able to replicate this same level of success in the US like that. But seeing this Gundam film (particular this title) exceeding expectation amongst anime fandom, and geek fandom scholars would surprise many. I wonder if Hideaki Anno being the writer (along with Studio Khara) for this film might have played a big role into why this particular Gundam film was able to make this sum amount of money in the US's theatrical run? I wonder what would've happened if Sunrise had gotten Studio Ghibli (and before you asked, yes I know about Ghibli being involved in animating one of Gundam Unicorn's OVA) instead of Khara, or even if Hayao Miyazaki was the writer, or producer instead of Anno, would this be making like $10 million at the US box office if Miyazaki or Ghibli's name was attached to this? ![]() |
