Style over substance is not inherently bad. Or at least isn’t to me. And when said style is proven to be unpopular as hell but they keep doing it over and over because it’s what they want to do and don’t want to compromise? Yes, it’s brave. When people can recognize them in a single screenshot without needing to see their name? It’s unique and creative Brave unique and creative visuals don’t have to meet your criteria of good to be brave, unique and creative |

It is because the studio is committed to using every single facet of their creations to sow discord and malfeasance. |

If you can explain how it constitutes bullying, I'll take it into consideration when editing reviews in the future. |

Formatting mistake in this paragraph: you forgot to capitalize the O in the underlined "out" to match up with the other instances of the gag. |

And the IPA spelling beneath the title is pronounced "weathe"! |

In fact, GoHands themselves did the "girls in a post-apocalyptic city" scenario more than a decade back with Coppelion. |

Hey, Coppelion was actually decent. Of course, it was based on a pretty good manga with a plot that made sense... most of the time. I could have gone for a second season. As for this article, I think it would behoove Mr. Beckett not to try so hard. Yes, Momentary Lily is kinda dumb, but that's no excuse to try to outmatch it in that regard. Why is this presented like it is a bad thing? If anything, I am finding the animation rather restrained for a GoHands production. |

I'm sorry you don't enjoy this format. It's an ongoing, occasional "bit" that is reserved for very specific productions. If you read James' narrative, three past examples are linked very early on. It's understood by our regular readers that voting for a "cursed" title equals out to these creative exercises by our staff. They are rare; I don't think we even had one last year outside of some extra silliness in Christopher Farris' Nokotan reviews. This one, specifically, has continuity from the last time James did this for The Fruit of Evolution: http://4NN.cx/.180383 The first time I believe this was done was before I was executive editor and it was Gabriella Ekens' reviews of Pop Team Epic. Pop Team Epic: http://4NN.cx/.126735 Pop Team Epic 2: animenewsnetwork.com/review/pop-team-epic-season-2/.190859 (James took up the mantle here, which included another narrative about receiving a cursed box in the mail containing a creepy doll and video tapes) Perhaps best known is Nicholas Dupree's EX-ARM reviews: http://4NN.cx/.168402 and then there are James' other GoHands reviews which include HandShakers (http://4NN.cx/.111039) and W'z (animenewsnetwork.com/review/wz/episodes-1-3/.142326). Not all of these follow the creative meta-format, actually, and it's not dictated that they must. The approach is that if an anime is consistently not good, then the reviews should be at least entertaining to read. Your mileage will vary on that, but 9-ish reviews repeating the same checklist of why something is bad is a horribly dull reviewing assignment to undertake for three months and not particularly useful. The series will probably get a full-series review when it wraps up in the conventional format. If you don't enjoy what will happen in this space every week, I recommend waiting for that. |

@ ANN_Lynzee: And it is clear from comments in this thread that this format is enthusiastically enjoyed by some. Personally, I find the arrangement contrived and artificial, but then I'm just a big ole spoilsport. I enjoy me a good rant but I like when they occur organically as opposed to the planned, "oh here's a title we all hate, let's vote for it to get it reviewed, have somebody treat it like a pinata and we'll all clap our seal fins together in delight." Bah, humbug.

I know what Mr. Beckett is trying to do. It just seems to me that this style of writing is not really his thing. Merely dialing the silliness up to eleven usually does not good comedic writing make. It doesn't help that the article would leave anybody who has not seen the show utterly befuddled. |

I don't want to get in an argument while on vacation, but characterizing the people who feel differently than you because they have a different sense of humor as "clapping [their] seal fins together in delight" actually sucks regardless of whether you couch it in "oh I'm just a spoilsport." Not liking it (whether the show or what was written or both) is fine, characterizing others like that is not.
No, it is. He's being doing it for awhile and a large enough people enjoy it that they vote for him to continue to do it. Again, sorry you didn't enjoy it. |

I am obviously not the only one who thought this article was not all that good. In the end I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree about the comedic skills on display here. Last edited by motormind on Fri Jan 17, 2025 9:12 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Honestly I'm not even watching the show and I intend to tune into the review every week, that was quite an entertaining read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have a friend who IS watching because they love hatewatching bad shows and binge pretty extreme horror on the regular and they actually had to take a break due to overstimulation during their watch so I think that says something about the quality of the show.

OK, that's fine, but why not publish this kind of material under "Editorials" or create a different category like "Satire" to differentiate it from actual reviews? |
