Looking over the list it is going to be a very packed season for me after two seasons that were good but not great. There are also like 5 sequel seasons to big shows I really like.

Winter 2025 is gonna be the Season of the Sequel for me. There are no fewer than 7 I plan to check out:

(The) Apothecary Diaries 2, Blue Exorcist: The Blue Night Saga, Dr. Stone: Science Future, Ishura 2, My Happy Marriage 2, Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun 2 and Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow-.

I'm really looking forward to all those. Of the new shows, I plan to sample:

Ameku Takao's Detective Karte, Anyway, I'm Falling in Love with You, Fate/strange Fake, FLOWER AND ASURA, Honey Lemon Soda, I May Be a Guild Receptionist, I’m Living with an Otaku NEET Kunoichi!?, Medaka Kuroiwa is Impervious to My Charms, Sakamoto Days, Tasokare Hotel, Übel Blatt, Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf!, and ZENSHU. How many of those survive the cull remains to be seen. The list may grow depending on what I read in the Preview Guide and see in the Series Discussion forum.

Then there's two carry overs from this season: Orb: On the Movment of the Earth and Shangri-la Frontier 2.

I seem to have developed enough of a steady habit of watching my physical collection that I'm not particularly concerned if I have a healthy sized streaming menu, too.

Thanks Tony Smile

Shangri-La Frontier, Blue Box, Apothecary Diaries, and Solo Leveling are my returning favorites, and I'll keep on checking in on Ranma. .

Of the newbies, I'm hoping Tasokare Hotel, Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World, Momentary Lily, and Welcome To Japan Ms. Elf will wind up in Crunchyroll's Mystery boxes. I think the chances are pretty good. Either that, or I hope HIDIVE sells a kidney or whatever else it has to do to snap some of them up.

And then I'll be busy checking out lots of anime looking for some fun ones too. Fate:Strange Fake? Honey Lemon Soda? Grisaiai Phantom Trigger wouldn't normally be my thing, but I like the first two Grisaia anime. .Ameku MD: Dr. Detective? Etc.

Didn't realize Orbs and Fairy Tales were continuing...edit!

Hm...Well, I see 2 that I am almost certainly watching- Fate/Strange Fake and Apothecary Diaries. I know Shangri-La Frontier is well liked, but my issues with its storytelling have led me to drop the heck out of it. I'd love to be interested in Unnamed Memory too- the show is, nominally, right up my alley. But after its first season....no thanks.

Past that...I remember reading some of Ubel Blatt, and liking it well enough. And I do already have a Prime account. And, like Edjwald, I did like the prior Grisaia projects well enough, though I'm not sure how well that one continues with its lead having found a decent ending. so that leaves me with 2-4, and final slots to be determined by whatever makes a solid impression the first few weeks. Not a bad starting point.

Oops, sorry folks, I was mistaken. Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest will not be continuing in Winter 2025 as I had originally assumed. Wishful thinking, I guess.

No problem. It's not like I'm one of those weirdos who get obsessive about small things that only matter to themselves, Hah hah.

:::::silently, meticulously writes Blood's name on a List :::::::

So I've started checking out trailers and such, and after a season or two of dry spells, it looks like the theme of this season is going to be Revenge of the Isekai.

Headhunted to Another World et al. I'm a Noble on the Brink of Ruin, Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time, Magic Maker: How to Make Magic in Another World, The Daily Life of a Middle Aged Shopper in Another World, Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World, and even the reverse isekai Welcome to Japan Ms. Elf.

Will this be an isekai renaissance or something more like a backed up toilet overflowing?

I'm gonna go with the toilet overflowing option. The only one on that list I'm checking out is Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf and I don't have super high hopes for it. I'm hoping it might have little of the Otaku Elf charm in it. We'll see.

However, I am adding Phantom Trigger, Momentary Lily and Okitsura to my sample list. They may end up sucking, but they aren't isekturds.

Well, I'm always willing to take a kick at the isekai football no matter how many times it gets yanked away and I wind up sprawling. The last several seasons I've dumped more isekai than I've stuck with, but I still go into them mildly hopeful that I'll find a pleasant diversion for half an hour. I'll try them all, and my wistfully optimistic take is that:

Welcome to Japan Ms. Elf looks like it could be charming

Red Ranger looks like it could be fun.

Online Shopper has the potential to have some interesting twists just because of the concept.

But I have to admit, just based on the scenarios and first looks, it appears that most of the new isekai are going for a base hit rather than swinging for the fences.

On the bright side, so far they do not look like they are of trash quality either. Being decent quality and having a fun gimmick is enough to be worth a look.

Yah, I think Isekai has been so popular because it's got a pretty simple appeal. Part of it is that same desire to escape the rat race and confines of our modern industrialized world that makes so many people irrationally long for a zombie apocalypse. Add in a slice of life element, mix in some adolescent wish fulfillment, sprinkle (or slather) on some fan service, and voila! You've got your bargain bin isekai, cheap, easy to make, and even if it's not great, it's not awful.

A standard, craftsman-like Isekai is the high school pizza of anime.

Of course, you can get tired of anything if you consume too much of it.

I am definitely tired of the isekai genre... or rather, I'm tired of lazy, derivative isekai which, unfortunately, seems to the majority of what's on offer. Two of my favourite shows of all time: The Vision of Escaflowne and Twelve Kingdoms are isekai, so it's not like I have anything against the genre as a whole. I'm tired of lazy or bad story-telling in general, regardless of genre, it's just that there are so many isekai offerings each season, those shows stand out for me with respect to story-telling violations. This is not a new problem. Each year, the ratio of solid story-telling shows to crappy story telling shows is not great. The rise in the overall number of shows has just made the problem more apparent to me over the years.

Pre ANN review, it is going to be a dry anime season for me.

Ubel Blatt and Solo Leveling are the two must sees for me this Winter season. Hopefully, Ubel Blatt will exceed expectations, considering how great the manga was. Revenge is sweet in this one.

Will probably take a look at Fate/Strange Fate, just to see. Otherwise nothing else of interest for me, unless the ANN Preview Guide, finds some hidden gems.

Dr Stone seems to be a favorite for many, but after the first season, I gave up on it after they sidelined Taiju Oki and Yuzuriha Ogawa. It became a different show without them. I know they came back, but I just don't have the interest to get back into it.

@ TarTarkas - I did stick with Dr. Stone and quite enjoy it, but I'm with you in not liking when important characters are put on the shelf for an extended period. The champion for that, which I doubt you're watching, is Sengoku Youko. For the first 13 episodes we were following a certain group of characters in a certain situation and then BAM! the next arc of 22 episodes splits the group up and follows a different story. This is an adaptation of a manga and it's almost like the mangaka decided, "Eh, I've gotten bored of the story I started to tell so let's do something else." Not a fan of this approach, I have to say.
