A 15-year gap between seasons... well, at least this is a series without any real continuity, so there's no need to "reboot" it (though, to be perfectly honest, GMB is the exact kind of series to make that kind of joke in the opening of the first episode of this new season).

If only more anime could be this lucky.

Honestly, as hard as I've tried I can't for the life of me understand the decisions of the anime industry, especially over the past decade or so. Nichijou was a hit comedy anime outside of Japan but never got a second season, Bofuri still doesn't have a 3rd season, Our Last crusade still doesn't have a second season despite one being announced, Claymore never got the reboot it deserved even with the death of the Berserk franchise, Oda is still milking One Piece, after more than a decade they FINALLY reboot Spice and Wolf only for it to be a half baked CGI mess, they rebooted Fruits Basket only for it to be a rushed mess halfway through, The Tekken franchise finally gets an anime only for it to be a CGI mess, they created a boring and pointless Inu Yasha spinoff to VERY mixed reception, 86 still doesn't have a second season despite being well received and the list of nonsense goes on and on. Yet for some reason this no name franchise that I'm willing to bet 95% of viewers have never even heard of gets several reboots (basically). Don't even get me started on the god awful anime streaming services out there...

It has a second season, albeit one that is on hiatus.

I'm assuming some of these are just from the dumb anime only used to sell more manga/light novels mindset. And like you mentioned with Spice and Wolf, some of these do come back and are tarnished, a la Devil is a Par Timer (even if that is more source issue).

And somewhat related note, I do kind of miss the old days when harder to get access to foreign light novels/manga. With a lot of animation just being adaptations of existing works, really hard for me to be surprised by a story.

"With a lot of animation just being adaptations of existing works, really hard for me to be surprised by a story".

There's nothing wrong with adapting already existing works provided it's actually done right. Case in point, Demon Slayer. That was a well executed anime that respected, and in some cases even improved upon the source material. Another example was Death Note, which was a better adaptation than I think anyone was expecting. It was an almost panel for panel translation of the manga.

1. This series is well known and loved in Japan. It's been referenced many times in other anime. Just because you don't know it doesn't mean no one else knows it.
2. It's not a reboot, it's a new season of a comedy skit series.

Why is Gag Manga Biyori of all things the show that's tipped you over the edge lol.

Sorry, maybe I was unclear on my point. The issue isn't that adaptations exist. The issue is that it is a lot easier to have access to the source material before the adaptation even gets announced these days. That means there is a good chance I will have already read and know all the plots beats and surprises if I decide to watch the adaptation.

This was similarly mentioned in the last TWIA, and I made the same kind of comment, but I was just thinking when I started getting into Japanese media and basically your only option was anime and maybe some scanlations for the big three in Shonen Jump. In those days, basically any anime I watched I had no idea what was going to happen. I'm just wondering if that had any effect of further loving some of my favorite adaptations like Trigun, Baccano, or Fullmetal Alchemist (original, which I still think is underrated). Nowadays though, it is rare that an adaptation in which I have read the source material will be something I instantly fall for (Frieren one exception though).

TL;DR - Maybe I should stop reading manga/light novels if I want to really enjoy adaptations again.

I see Akitaro Daichi continues to escape facing any consequences for the well known harassment allegations against him.

Anime is primarily made for a Japanese audience. If they don't like something, there's a good chance it's not getting anymore.

Two people in the topic calling Spice and Wolf remake badly animate? WTF with you guys? It was way better than the older series in terms of production (and more faithful to the LNs BTW).

But on the topic of the news: I completed first season long time ago. Have zero desire watching any more. This type of gag humor just definetelly not for me.

Maybe someone will finally finish fansubbing the 4th season then? It's been sitting at half for almost 10 years

I'm hoping this somehow means we get official translations for the first four series. Also, my veranda is starting to crumble
