Do the Vampire Hunter D novels eventually settle down into a more consistent tone? early ones have been hard for me to get into due to their uneven mixture of supernatural horror and light, almost campy humor.

The original manga series was very loyal to the books but those are hella crappy and misogynistic so the mangaka was screwed no matter what. The rewritten/toned down and expanded Bloodlust movie all this IP is good for outside of lending the aesthetic to a videogame with an original script.

This reboot starts with novel 9 as all previous volumes were adapted into manga. You would think that 200 pages aren´t enough to coherently adapt one book each but the series is such cheap pulp that it wasn´t an issue.

Cool, hopefully it gets translated. Wild to think how this series was one of the first light novel series to get translated and it's still going to this day, 30th volume coming out just last month and the omnibuses being published.

Once you reach Mysterious Journey to the Northern Sea the series finds its footing. It peaks at the Dark Road/Tyrant's Stars arc, its amazing. But if you're not into horror with that classic Hammer and 80s vibes, then its probably not for you. I'm a huge 70/80s horror fan so this series is perfect for me, and still celebrated here in Japan as a pioneer in Japanese Vampire/Gothic literature
