Surprisingly I've never read the webtoon, hopefully this is adapted well. But the first episode was shooting a lot at you at once without giving a lot of background detail, so hopefully we get more info on the world in the coming episodes

Episode 1
A pretty good first episode, but I am not quite excited yet. I guess that I need some good character interaction. |

I only watched the first episode. Overall I didn't care for the boy that appears to be the main character. There were other things that are harder to quantify that turned me off the show as well. I've occasionally stuck with other shows were i didn't like the main character. (Example: Attack on Titan, I couldn't stand the main character Eren. I was kind of happy when spoiler[ he was eaten by a Titan early on ] , but then was disappointed with how that ended up playing out. I haven't had the drive or desire to watch any of the other episodes of Tower of God that have been released. Between rewatching older anime i've seen before or watching more of this show rewatching old anime wins out.

Huh, I know that some series tend to not get a lot of love in series discussion but I did not expect Tower of God to be one of those. I expected at least a little season 1 discussion if I am honest. Anyway, the second season started off pretty strong. Bam has changed quite a bit and it seems that he is getting a new team to work with, whether he likes it or not. Said team looks kind of wonky right now but they did get to the 20th floor so surely they are not that bad.

There was plenty of "love" in the regular talkback for the show and at the time I, and I think most posters, didn't know the Forums existed and so didn't post here. That has changed somewhat of late but where I post will be determined by what is done with the series threads. I was relieved to see Bam in Ep1 as the early previews and S2 synopsis seemed to indicate we were getting a whole new cast and only Kuhn and Rachel were going to make appearances eventually. If you ask me, that would have been an incredibly dumb choice...

I will agree that a whole new team/cast and a very different Bam makes for a rather interesting start. You grow attached to some characters and to then see them get janked away is something. That said, I really want Bam to meet Rachel again and to expose her for the not very nice lady that she seems to be.

My thing about this show is that I've always loved the creativity and the setting, and I'm rooting for Bam, but it's always more pity than anything else. It was hard for me to emotionally invest in someone who was so wide eyed and gullible and pure that it was almost cringey. I like Kuhn, but he is by his nature enigmatic. I like Rak, but he's pretty simple by design. So I've always found the show kind of fascinating, but I've watched it from a bit of an emotional distance. I'm not saying I want Bam to go full Shield Hero and start acting like an @$$hat or a Tsundere because he's been betrayed, but I will say that I've started to find Bam a little more empathizable even if that's not really a word..
When he said, "The answer isn't at the top of the tower" and eyepatch gasped, I thought that Bam got something that most of the people besides Kuhn don't, really. And when I saw the taller, pony-tailed figure and realized that it was Bam, I thought he was more interesting than previously. I also had this weird moment where I imagined everyone getting to the top of the tower and finding a sign that says "Just kidding." |

Well, with the second episode I would say that Bam is no longer pure or gullible, he is cringey though, just in a rather different way. Given the score he got at the power test it seems like he has powered up a fair bit. As for the episode, it was pretty chaotic and somehow it turned into a game between Bam and the procter with the latter wanting to get rid of Bam for being a part of FUG (and not being secret about it at all).
Lots of new characters once again. |

Huh, while the first and second episode did indeed not look as good as the previous season I would still call them good enough presentation and pacing wise. With the third episode I have no idea what the hell happened. The animation is uneven at best and the story feels like a rushed checklist of things that needed to happen logic be damned.

Man, I am getting pretty close to dropping the second season and that is wild given how excited I was for it after loving the first one. The first two episodes were solid despite some animation fumbles but the third and fourth episode duo soured me a lot on the whole thing mainly due to pacing issues and story choices (plus the animation). For example: Nya getting brutally killed for no reason and then Ja forgiving the guy because he wants to break the cycle of hatred was so poorly handled it made me freeze.

And then the fifth episode draws me in again due to it having way better pacing plus story. Khun and his quest for vengeance is actually an exciting one and Rachel being onto him and trying to be tricksy again makes the whole thing something I want to see play out. The animation is still not great but the episode was great and the best of the second season thus far. So yeah, I think I am just going to shut up because the quality week from week can differ immensely.

Wow, it's been months since anybody was interested in commenting about ToG2 but the beginning of Ep23 had me actually laughing! They do the "ominous slow walk behind the (oblivious) victim while looking evil" bit with not only flashes of lightning to illuminate the slow but steady menace approaching, but a mixed choir chanting with "epic music" accented by rock guitar riffs and tubular bells even in the background before he bloodily skewers Wagnan from behind with his bare hands! Oh, noes! How can he survive?? Well, after about 4 minutes of scene time Rak picks him up and asks "are you OK?" and he says "I'm fine".
That's right buddy, just shake it off, it's only a "flesh wound". And he is still OK by scene end without any medical attention. They went so hard to try to "amp up" the drama and seemingly used every trick to do it for so little dramatic payoff it was hilarious. Sad testimony to how clueless the present adaptation team is in screenwriting or plotting. If SIU didn't write it better, the anime team should have been able to do better than this. Oh, and all the commotion has brought almost everyone together again in one spot. We even finally have Leroro coming in from left field in the nick of time with an epic "side shot" without even looking, like a badass! I'm sure Endorsi, Anak and Pericule will drop in next week...Will still watch, but sorry to see how low ToG2 has gone from S1. |

Ep25-Action packed with a flurry of conflicting alliances clashing but in order to save Bam amidst the chaos, he needs Endorsi and her BongBong. But she informs him that she just hurt her BongBong fighting some other guy. Well, I guess we all know what that means, their date will have to wait until her BongBong get better...
![]() With dialog like this, it's getting increasingly hard to take this drama seriously, which is a shame given how good S1 was. The ANN rankings chart has ToG2 starting mid at season start and sounding for the bottom since, not surprising... |
