Your hint 2 led me to the correct answer. At first I thought of Caligula then Julius Caesar. It didn't occur to me until after I figured out who it was that I realised the problem with the clue. Julius Caesar never became emperor - Cassius and Brutus made sure of that. What's more, Julius wasn't his first name; it was Gaius, ie his name was Gaius Julius Caesar. Like Japanese given names, the first name (praenomen) was only used by family, important associates and close friends. Hence, he has gone down in history as just Julius Caesar. BTW, Caligula was also named Gaius Julius Caesar, so to distinguish them Caligula is known by his nickname, meaning "Little Boot". Apologies for the pedantry. I understood what you meant. That's what comes from studying Latin at school and university.

Edit: Hey, I've just realised. I'm ahead of Calathan. I should enjoy it while it lasts.
