Well I have a BFA in Cartooning and working on some web comics among other art related things so that would qualify me as an professional by most people's standards, I would assume. So not only do I read Shoujo manga but I know my shit on creating comics in general. Frankly you're coming off as overly defensive when the critique isn't even of your art. If she's going to be a professional regardless of age I'm going to treat her as such. Yes she's very good for a 13 year old girl but she has loads of area that she needs to improve on. And in case my words didn't make it clear I expect her to become a highly skilled artist in the future provided she doesn't stagnate at this level. I don't expect a 13 year old to perfect, but if it's going to be a 13 year old professional I'm not going to cut her slack because of her age. And it's not like my comment is 100% she sucks or something of the like, I just stated a fact. The sample pages do not provide enough information to accurately judge her skill, and as such I'm highly skeptical of a 13 year old for obvious reasons as usually these are just gimmicks and they crash a burn which would be a shame because there is potential. As for the anatomy issues, the big one is the collarbone and just over all consistency which I assume will approve over time. Here's a quick redline I did to try to show what I mean: https://68.media.tumblr.com/a0498dd314b1fda9b233d5ac236ea394/tumblr_owta8xpL8N1qd0iu1o1_1280.jpg As for other issues like her inking, the inking around the jaw of the boy in the last panel is a little wobble-y. If it were like Natsume Yuujinchou I could pass it off as a stylistic choice but this clearly looks like just a flaw rather than a deliberate choice. But you know what even if her art didn't improve it's fine if her stories are just that good. There are specific artist I follow despite their flaws solely for their ability to tell a story. Which again with the pages they have shown us give me no ability to accurately judge if she can tell story. I'm sorry you found my comment pretentious. I just like art a lot as I am an artist, and as such I use the terminology that I learned and used in university. I think you're reading way too much into my comment, or reading it with a tone I did not intend. I mean it's text, I'm pretty blunt with my word use. I do better in person because people can see and hear the true intent. I literally meant what I said the pages shown doesn't really give us a good idea of what she's capable of. Maybe if they had shown different pages my comment would have been different. And maybe you're idea of what I meant by improving is different than I intended. A lot of people assume improvement is photo realism, and I assure you that is not what I meant by improve. To me it was like if only her line work was a little more refined it would be really push her art into the spotlight rather than just her age. |

This could have been more awkward if it was a boy writing this.

I wish I could draw like that. Sadly my art skills are garbage tier.

Am I the only one wondering if this is an older person claiming to be 13? I'm not sure if a manga-ka has ever lied about their age, but it's the subject matter, not the art, making me leery.
Or maybe I just assume all kids are more innocent and less mature than some are. |
