We're going to need the Dragon Ball's for this, aren't we?

I'm sure Toei's demanding a goddamn fortune for rights to Super.

I wonder if it is due to the fact that the second Dragon Ball Z Kai didn't make it to English regions.

This is probably for the best. Let the ignorant masses be spared of the bane of the dragon ball series for just a little while longer.

Too late for that, GT was dubbed over a decade ago.

That would be my guess. You'd think Funimation would have pounced on it right away considering how integral DBZ is to the company, so I have to wonder just how high the price is if Funimation hasn't acquired it yet.

Let's all remember this well if Toei ever decides to comment about piracy.

this is beyond ridiculous of all things you can think of that aren't streaming
but i guess the biggest audience for it would rather watch it on tv dubbed and some of em buy the dvd's since it's DragonBall and all.

Why is it taking FUNi forever to license the Z Kai version of the Buu saga? It's long overdue. They can't dub Super without giving Z Kai full closure. Especially if they, and I hope to God that they do, bring back Vegito.
On another note, I'm not sure exactly how Toriyama is involved with Dragon Ball Super. I know he designs characters but story-wise, they just say he's the original concept creator, ie the original manga. Is he the one penning out Super? Or is some guy writing it and taking it to him as creative consultant or something?

In terms of the Dragon Ball Super manga (which actually has an English-language release date), Akira Toriyama is credited as the author but not the illustrator. We also know that he wrote the screenplay for the movie that was adapted into the show's second arc (Resurrection F) and was heavily involved in the creation of the movie that was adapted into the show's first arc, although he did not write that screenplay.
Here's what he has to say about his involvement with the current arc:
Quote: | "As with last time, I wrote the overall plot outline, and the scriptwriters have been compiling and expanded the story content into individual episodes, making various changes and additions, and generally doing their best to make the story more interesting." |

He initially just wrote a broad, general outline for the anime. Leaving the smaller details, episode by episode stuff to the anime staff. He's also very close to the mangas author, Toyotarou. I read that he sometimes checks the manga before it's published and actually prefers the manga version of Super. But is still not directly involved with it. You'll note that the manga version of super often has significant differences to the show. Toriyama actually likes Toyotarou's art and how he takes liberties.

It's fine. Take your time. Clean up some of that off-model art in the show and THEN let us have it. I'm in no hurry. Force people to watch it in Japanese first if they want to watch it. When it gets here, there's just going to be a lot more bitching about "Vegeta doesn't get to do anything" and "Man, I wish Faulconer was still doing the music!" anyway, I don't need to see more of that.

They won't need to complain for long. I'm sure some fan will be generous enough to take out the awful music and replace it with Faulconer's score. The music in the Japanese music just plain sucks.

I'm pretty sure that Funimation already has the rights to Super and they've probably started to dub it. However they can't do anything with it until Toei gives them the all clear and God knows when that will happen.
