I was kind of underwhelmed by the first vol of Kiss Him, Not Me to be honest. Hopefully it got better, but it just didn't seem like it was for me.

It's not that bad actually. It has a very good story line, but i'm shocked as well, i thought for sure Noragami would have won that title.

DAYS have upcoming anime in July but I don't like MAPPA studio ><
Kiss Him not Me have an upcoming anime too and I persoanlly read it and loved it so can't wait for the anime adaption xD more shoujo anime are more than welcome xD
lastly Kondori have a live-action drama adaption and it was so heartwarming loved it <3

Well it's popular in Japan, it's getting an anime adaptation this year. The bad point of this manga though is the random Yuri added in the harem like wtf?

They're run by Kodansha, but not limited to Kodansha titles. Same with the Shogakukan award which isn't limited to Shogakukan titles.

Yep. But unlike the Shogakukan winners, which included 2 Shueisha titles, Kodansha seems to favor their own. In the Shonen and Shoujo categories they've awarded two titles with middling to decent sales that have anime adaptations in the works -- these awards are all about generating publicity.

I think the basic idea is that in Japan, obstetricians only assist in high risk pregnancies' births, and nurse midwives handle standard births. It might seem really strange to Americans, where just about every birth is attended by Ob/Gyns, and nurse midwives are comparatively rare (though they're becoming more popular).
I checked out Kanadori and wasn't really impressed, as it's too episodic for my tastes. The chapter in which a teenage girl considers getting an abortion is incredibly eye opening. I was shocked that in Japan, a country that always seemed to have a less punitive view on abortion than other places, teenage girls are required to get their parents, their boyfriend (or father of the fetus) and their boyfriend's parents' signatures in order to get an abortion. After 11 weeks, the doctor needs to make a death certificate for the fetus and the girl is responsible for the cost of cremating the fetus, in addition to the cost of the abortion itself, which is pricey and not covered by insurance unless it's done for the physical health of the mother (also, the "abortion pill" is not currently approved in Japan, so all abortions are procedural unless the doctor can get an import). Keep in mind that Japan did not allow birth control pills for contraception until 1999, and they still aren't covered by insurance. I'm surprised the teenage pregnancy and birth rate isn't higher in Japan under those policies.
